iPort Surface Button Inwall Ipad solution with independent IP Buttons

Question

Have a look at that one.

What a great idea to raise the WAF. It works through POE spliitter, charges the ipad and communiticates through TCP port 10001 ipad indedendent.

Already works with Crestron, Lutron, and simplecontrol. It uses JSON. What do you guys think about it?

Exchangeable buttons, Led backlit, useable, when screens black.

It would be SO sweet to control music and alarms just through that one without sliding, waiting for slow app, swiping through all the mods just for a button...

Any chance to make it control the HC2 somehow? Guess, there has to be some gateway in between, maybe a Raz, which parses the outputs and converts it in API webhooks?

Any quick idea?

Sebastian

Looks awesome, and I'm going to suggest it would be very do-able, and an easy solution to set up as it's all JSON strings, and will soon have an open API

iPort's button API is an open platform allowing developers with knowledge of JSON and control system driver coding to create custom drivers to support nearly any system.

but .. ..  .. it costs as much as an ipad ..

and that's without shipping

It's a shame, exactly what I've been looking for as a mounting option, and with small scale manufacturing it's very understandable, but it's too rich for my blood.

Cheers,

    Hi Alan

Yeah. Its such a charming approach, which would bring so much comfort to that DIY system.

And you are absolutely right. In fact they are as double as expensive than a used ipad mini 4 which would IMO suit best. It´s a pricy one. (but -still- dirt cheap compared to what companies like

crestron and so on rip off from their customers. )

However I am not a real programmer at all. I still try to understand, how we can make Fibaro understand the push of a button which would fire a JSON string.

Would it need to "listen" all the time to device (with a VD) on its ports to determine if a button was pressed or has there to be some sort of middleware in between?

Just wrote them to get a look into the api, may be they respond.

    Cheers

that is very nice...i was looking to all iport bazels since some time, only thing is that they all cost such an ipad...so it will take like 1200$ to have an operative screen!!

So one thing i always thinked is VERY missing in fibaro zwave system is really a nice touchscreen!! Don't you think so?

(new fibaro swipe is nice, but quite useless...)

TCO is a big turn off and difficult to justify against the function of an operative screen for control.

I just use cases from studio proper and these connect to wall mounts and desktop pivot mounts in my house. Not as nice as the solutions above but significantly cheaper. Also I can move the iPad around the house easily as well if I want to

    Hi guys,

I hate to waste a single minute of my life time just for finding the right button hidden somewhere in the crappy (sorry Fibaro, but as long as the user has no way to modify the look and feel to his needs, it will -always be crappy someones eye view) app . IoT and home automation should make life easier and not more compliciated.

Forget about the touch screen, where would you use it?! Internal website - haha *good laugh*

A simple "default view for each room" in the apps would change things to better. A templating engine would be everyones dream, but not insight. Dont get me wrong, I am still a big fan of the Fibaro approach, however the daily usability still lacks in my eyes.

And yes, money always matters. But once you have seen "serious" home automation systems like crestron and likewise you know what enough money -can- do.

Anyways, ... my main question still is the same:

That unit pops out JSON strings on given port and its IP. How can this be used to make Fibaro work? From what I understand is that something would have to listen all the time for strings to interpret. How can that be realized? WIthin Fibaro, or has something be in between?

Here is the link to the developer manual of IPORT:

There is a user who is creating the simple user interface of the savant home automation app but for fibaro. He was pretty active on here for awhile, but he hasn't posted or responded to any posts in awhile... I was looking forward to trying out his app too....

I'm using the vidabox mount for my Samsung Galaxy tab 2. They look amazing when mounted! They are very easy to setup and access. I have two in our home.

Thanks Matt, well hopefully he or someone else knows how to do it.  I'd give it a go but have never done a socket listen development

Now to the hard part - LUA Socket listener in HC2 or Domoticz - Lets see

If anybody have some development - please share :)
