I moved from Vera Edge to HCL. What a big mistake at the begining. Ok, my fault, I have had to read much more carefully to not to make such decision. Well after two days I am considering returning this piece of ***. Polish guys, shame on you! For that money you should deliver something that is stable with mage more fnctionallyty in comparison to competition!

Well, I wanted to try something with great looking UI as Fibaro surelly is. Unfortunately that is all. I have never met such a crap (hcl) which would not run simple scenes without knowing why. Also the LUA is missing more than I expected.

For Z-wave gateways I reccomend Home Center 2. Yes, it is more expensive than Vera or Zipato etc, but it can do alot if you can handle Lua and its quite stable if you do configuration right.

You cannot  compare Vera and HClite. Vera is more for DIY guys, but HClite is ment for simple solutions where you want things to work but you dont want them get complicated. If you want to do "everything" then get Home Center 2. We have done amazing things with HC2, and I know that this is something you woudlnt do with Vera

Yeah, thats what I have decided to try. I will swap HCL for HC2 tomorrow and give Fibaro one more try.

Yes you need HC2. Tried both and HC2 by far the better unit.... HCL only useful for extending HC2 range!

It won't take too long for you to realise most of the advertised features that tempted you to the HCL / HC2 don't work. Power Metering , nope , plugins , nope, upgradeable firmware, nope. In fact its probably easier to list the things that don't work over the ones that do. And just to piss you off a little bit more, Fibaro stated all there HW would be Gen 5 by end of year so there is obviously a new controller in the pipeline, mind you given how Perma-Beta the software is, it won't make much difference.

Metering works fine (aeon meter allocatec in separate room to be able to see whole house consumption).

    Upgradable firmware works since 4.083.

There is bigger issue feom my point of view. Basic stuff is not reliable. E.g weather is not trustfull, missing h264 ip cam codec support, behaviour of web interface, mobile app and tablet app is different (e.g in power consumption display)... It need more tuning to existing features than in adding new ones.

Sorry i just saw the post of firmware upgrade ability and was horrified by what I saw. Fibaro have been saying for some time now that the modules were upgradeable but the controller didn't support it, so once that functionality was enabled then surely all fibaro modules that support that functionality should be enabled.

Also based on the extract below, you need to bring every module to the controller to upgrade it, how unrealistic is this, seriously ? So you need to rip out the dimmers from the wall, bring it close to the controller, power it up and then you can upgrade it, are they having a laugh ? Yes it may be easier with some products such as wall plugs but what about door/window sensors that have been screwed in place, you have to remove them, when its supported, seriously Fibaro, that is amateur hour.

Firmware Update - wireless update of Z-Wave devices: Motion Sensor, Dimmer and Wall Plug. Availability of the update for each device is showed in Notification Center and Advanced Configuration. Run update only when devices are in close range from controller (ca. 2 m). Process can take up to 30 minutes, depending on Z-Wave traffic and devices queued for updates. Details of the whole procedure can be found in a notification displayed before every device update.

First try it, than make a critics. You dont have to rip anything from the wall. Upgraded all upgradable devices in my home without moving them.

Yes hcl is a good gateway to extend your network and yes hc2 is 100000 miles or km faraway from Vera...

Fibaro HCL is very good with Control4, becouse every logic is done by Control4. Control4 just monitor sensors and control actors trough REST API. I always say on Training with potential customers: "If you want to do some A/V, Just get devices to Fibaro HCL and every programming and scenes do in Control4. But if you want some basic controlling and monitoring, use HCL. And if you want some serious integration with LUA (modbus, RS-232, RS-485,..) or some TV control with API, use HC2.". And i have to say, it is very good A/V + Automatization sollution. For many customers is HCL enough for just controling their house + basic monitoring of temperature and for some cameras.

MiCasa Verde (Vera control Limited nowdays) i from Romania or Bulgary i would not frown on them for their origin either. I do frown on them because their entire system is (as Supernode pointed out) of fecal quality.
