4.053 to 4.090 - Clarification on Privacy Policy please someone

Hi All,

I do remember seeing some discussion on this before but could do with some clarification. I just got a 'Swipe' and it won't work with 4.053 so need to upgrade if I want to use it....which is annoying based on following. When I went to do it I saw the policy has changed and, honestly, I'm none too keen on what I see.

So, what 'is' the Fibaro 'Service' exactly? Is it just using remote access and/or Fibaro Home (web access of our HC2's) or what? If I don't use either of those i.e. use DDNS or VPN to access remote and don't use Fibaro Home, don't use GPS or location related services is my data still collected or not? I don't see any opt-outs.

If I don't use either Fibaro Home OR Remote access using 'the service' what data is still collected? Is it just for weather or what? How can I stop this e.g. block google servers?

Personally I don't think, just to use the basic system, that we should be subjected to data mining when I'm not entirely clear on what's collected based on the kind of usage we have with the system. It mentions user names and passwords even? Now I'm not sure if something's lost in translation to English but it worries me thinking Google would have all this yet I have to prove who I am to get the same!!!

Any clarification very much appreciated from anyone, inc Fibaro. Otherwise I think I'll send the Swipe back.

Noone? Typical I suppose. Oh well, just blocked access then. Thank goodness for Asus routers.

Apart from that GA imposition I actually think 4.090 is a good release. How long before Fibaro give us a choice on how 'our' data is used and stored? Not happy at all. Oh and Swipe works, which helps.

Yeah i think blocking access is on my next to do list. Pretty worrying how much info companies can collect from us all nowadays.

Guys, mind to share what are the destinations to block outbound traffic?

I do not want to block all and cripple the HC2. But I do want to block all outbound traffic to Google.

Some may ask why am I so paranoid. Wait till one fine day, you google your own particulars such as mobile number, identification number (aka social security number for some countries), etc and found your identity easily available online when you have been very careful what you input online. It is thanks to all these 'identity mining' activities.

All I know so far, from Cujo, are the following Google servers....though theres a lot and its hard to block a range (in my router anyway) rather than specific ips:

    Google: 172.217.0.0 - 172.217.255.255 &

    216.58.192.0 - 216.58.223.255

    Anyone know any others?

Why not block everything and allow just the services that you want, for example, Yahoo for weather

yahoo is not the weather provider anymore, you can block it without any issues!
