Off course you can create your own doorbell. However it will not look as neat as the expected fibaro door bell, and will lack functionality, like camera etc.

Perhaps there are still challenges to be resolve before it is good enough to roll out to mass production.

Examples: Battery life, Camera footage quality, overall component cost, manufacturing cost.

 

Having a product to showcase and working does not always equate to ready for mass market selling. I am sure Fibaro has good reasons to hold this one despite many other products being mentioned as added support in latest HC2/HCL beta version.

I´m sure you are right. So FG keep focus on the door bell, almost all houses have/need one - unlike the swipe, this is potentially for everybody.

Possible, the delay is because Fibaro is somewhat shifting to Apple's Homekit. There is where the money is....
