Fibaro Door sensor HC2 complaining of low battery after battery change

Question

Posted

So this is an annoying issue I've had al along with Fibaro and HC.

Everytime I change the battery in one of the door sensors Hc2 has some serious issues with acknowledging the battery change and continues to nag about low battery.

Fibaros wonderfull support does always suggest a full reset which if i'm not misstaken means a new complete removal of the device and then including it again. So i will get a new Device ID and all scenes connected to that sensor is messed up and needs repairing.

Is there any way of actually changing the batteries so that HC2 sees that it no longer has low battery?

The sensor is working fine and reporting the status to HC2.

I had same problem with one of the door/window sensors. It helps to close door or window so that magnet is near sensor during replacement of battery and after replacing battery wake it up by triple pressing TMP button. Regarding Fibaro instructions how to replace battery here is that part from leaflet:

BATTERY USE:

The Fibaro Door/Window Sensor's battery life is up to 2 years, on default settings.
Current battery level is displayed in the Home Center 2 configuration interface. If a battery icon turns red, it means the battery needs replacement. In order not to trigger an alarm when replacing the battery, II-nd association group must be deleted and the Sensor's configuration must be changed to default, prior to the battery change.

and how do you delete the second association group?

Fibaro has changed the leaflet, the new ones only states:

    "Replacing the battery:

Life of the battery included with the device is from 12 to 24 months (on default settings).

In FIBARO home Center controller current battery level is displayed in the interface. If a battery icon turns red, it means the battery needs replacement. "

Nothing on how to change it..

The door or window should be open when the battery is replaced or you might accidently reset the sensor which will mean you will then have to exclude and include the device again

Also after you have replaced the battery in the sensor make sure you wake up the device and then HC2 should show the new battery level

I was just playing with one of my door/window sensors and position of door/window is NOT important, but if you are afraid that you can accidentally reset sensor then open door/window before battery replacement, I will still keep them closed, especially during winter time

Normally replacement of battery should be same as for any other device, open cover, take old battery out, insert new battery and close cover, no special requirements.

After inserting new battery sensor will immediately wake up and exchange status with controller, but when I was playing with it there was several times that first wake up after battery insertion ended up failed, but then second by triple pressing TMP button was always OK.
