This seems a simple question but I can't find the answer online.  How do I see the output from fibaro:debug when the scene is running automatically (or manually in non-edit mode)?

The debug window should still get updated automatically.  You then just need to go to the edit screen to see the details - I don't think there's a way to see the debug output using the iOS App, or normal front end webpages though.

Many thanks for that.  I had expected that the debug window that appears in edit mode would only contain messages from running the scene in edit mode.

I've also discovered that sending an HTTP message like:

    <ip address>/api/scenes/<sceneID>/debugMessages

    returns the debug messages also.
