What is the roadmap to foresee the HC2 with real Z-Wave+ support?

Posted

More like never for HC2 -needs different hardware.  HC3 or whatever the name of the next box will be will most likely have z-wave+.

What will all of us with HC2 do at that point nobody knows.  Would be nice from Fibaro to offer cheap upgrade to HC3 but doubt that will ever happen.

@Momos Not True Z-wave Plus can be on chips series 300.
I think you was thinking about chips series 500 popularly call ZW5 or gen 5

Every new Fibaro device support Z-wave Plus and ZW5, so to work with HC they must use class from z-wave Plus (not all now (device type) but i hope soon we gonna support all and we get official z-wave plus certification mark on gateways)

So you are saying that if i buy some Fibaro z-wave plus devices now and install them in my non-working network (still waiting on support without heating in the house...)  then i will get the range benefit of the z-wave + ?

Posted

@Momos that is a part of ZW5 not Z-wave Plus, look on manuals all new Fibaro devices we declaring a bigger range (not much, but is a bigger, from 30 to 40m for example)

Z-wave Plus that is a software (standard)  mark. Device who got them, use to get that same functions that same Z-wave class in that same use, for example

reporting state to controler

Before z-wave plus our device was used last association group, other how they wanted.

After z-wave plus now we (Fibaro) and others always doing that in first group called lifeline

Thank you for the clarification. I was under the impression that zwave plus and gen 5 are the same.

this is the common mistake, probably due to such statements:

Yes, the statement is at times very confusing. I guess many of the features described to be part of Z-wave Plus does not require specifically the Gen 5 chip in a controller.

Off that they (The Z-wave alliance) manage to entangle the two points like that. Unfortunate, but I guess it drives Gen 5 chip sales...

well, for sure Gen5 can do 100kbits and it does send with more power (i just ignore "better sensitivity" in todays home environment, full of cheap plugs and powerline adapters), on the other hand when havings mesh hops, the power benefit is back there (from first gen5 hop to next gen5 hop or device). That 100kbits/s is in my opinion only important for long range / lot of hops and back and forth communication, but in most cases this can be "locally fixed" with assiotiations. There is as well hardare encryption, but jesus, that work with software as well. That's of course from consumer point of view, for developers there are other benefits (e.g. more memory available).

Chip sales is one story, chips to produce different story - to use years old technology costs extra money, that's why Gen5 is better for all.
