Check internet connection in LUA code

Is there a way to check if my internet connection is still OK? e.g. ping google to check if the connection is alive? I want this to auto reset my router in case internet drops out.

If you are at home, you can receive a push message, but if not and if your HC/HC2 lost the internet connection you need at home a backup internet connection.

 

On my case, when we have a blackout in town, then nothing works: No internet over DSL and no Internet over GSM. And then? 

 

My ups will powering the router, gsm backup for hours, but if no connection to any internet provider is possible you can send signal over mobile radio, but how can you receive this signals?

 

You see, checking it or not, doesn't matter so this check is for the best
