Using FGMS-001 Motion Sensor in a Bathroom

Bash

Question

Just setting up my new system and have come to the bathroom. The door is in the opposite corner to the shower so I'm guessing the sensor would be best placed over the shower area?

There is a direct line of site etc but the sensor would be mounted directly above the shower head.  Has anyone done this,  are there any issues with general moisture in the air, steam etc?

FGMS001 (and other infra-red based motion sensor) does not detect movement behind a glass panel. So if you have a shower glass panel and door, it will not detect motion behind. I have repositioned near the shower area where there is an opening on top of the shower glass so it is able to detect motion inside shower area as well as entrance of the bathroom.

I would not recommend placement within the shower area itself. FGMS001 is not IPxx certified and over time, the mist from warm shower will likely damage the sensor.

Use the info on FGMS001 sensing range and field of vision in the user manual (see attached screenshot) to help in placement/positioning to achieve optimal result.

  • Thanks for the advice,  I do have a glass shower panel but it doesn't go all the way to the ceiling so think. I'll try placing the sensor directly above this and go from there.

Sounds similar to mine. Place the FGMS more on the outside at a spot where its 'field of vision' spans across both inside the shower area through the opening above the glass panel, and outside the shower area. That way, the motion can still be detected when showering/having a bath. This approach has worked well for 2+ years since I embark on this z-wave home automation journey.
