time calculations

Question

I don't get it....

Based on this:
  local var_endTime = "22:00"
  local currentTime = os.date("*t");
  local var_currentTime = string.format("%02d", currentTime.hour) .. ":" .. string.format("%02d", currentTime.min)

I can do this with a string value:

  if ( var_CurrentTime >= var_endTime) then

but not this:

  local max_Runtime = os.difftime(var_currentTime, var_Phase_4_max_endTime)

or this:

  local max_Runtime = (var_endTime - var_currentTime)

Cause it cannot perform arithmetics with string values.

But even when I do tonumber() it fails.

somebody willing to share some 'time' on this?

Arno

    Please look at os.time() for arithmetic. It is usually best performed on epoch time values.
