Relay switch or..

Question

Posted

I'm looking of a simple way to put my house in sleep mode. I'm thinking of using my night lamp for this, as I dont want any battery driven devices for this. I'm hoping that I can, if I turn the night lamp on/off twice in a row, activate a VD in Fibaro to put the house in sleep mode.

Would it be possible to the above solution if I buy a Relay switch and connect it to my night lamp? Does anyone know?

I've built a dimmer into my bedside lamp. Works absolutely great. I however removed the switch (pull cord) from the lamp as there was no easy way to connect the switch, which was built into the socket, to the dimmer. Instead I have a fibaro button stuck to my bedside table to switch bedroom lights on where I can change sleepstate by holding the switch. I figured this was a better option as use the lamp as a wakeup light and it's hard to automatically deduce what's going on in the bedroom and if it's sleep time yet.

Dimmer 1 and Dimmer 2 support "scene activation" and can send single, double click etc. The newest relays FGS-213 and 223 support a newer protocol: "CentralSceneEvent", through parameter "28. S1 switch - scenes sent".

This parameter determines which actions result in sending scene IDs assigned to them.

"1 - Key pressed 1 time
2 - Key pressed 2 times
4 - Key pressed 3 times
8 - Key Hold Down and Key Released"

Default = 15 = all sent.

Older relays do not send "double click".

Note: "double click" in general means "set to maximum", and that's somewhat opposite to the meaning you want to give to double click.

Alternatives - if you could get over your aversion to batteries - :  MiniMote, keyfob, swipe, button. I use them all.

Alternative 2: use a double relay, and replace your switch with a double momentary (pushbutton) switch. Use S2 to control "remote actions".

    Thanks both.

I have considered a Button, but the one I have does not behave nicely all the time, so I dont trust that for this. I have also looked at swipe, but I read different things about that product. Does it work or is it just another toy that will collect dust?

It's difficult for *me* to gauge if *you* are going to like it. It's a new device, you can't compare it to anything else. My swipe is used by myself, wife and 2 children in the TV room (nothing fancy, it's a 4 m x 4 m room). Swipe up/down controls lighting through scenes. Left is reading light on/off and right is dim an uplighter (5 steps). On batteries, it sometimes misses a gesture, but nobody is complaining. It's fun and functional. I use my "Fibaro Button" to control a dimmer (so no code on HC2, only direct association). But that one is used less than the swipe.

I have two ways to put house to sleep.  One is toggle switch connected to dimmer for our bedroom main light. One click is putting only our bedroom to sleep/awake (handy for afternoon nap :)) and two clicks is putting whole house to sleep or awake. I also have Fibaro swipe at the bedside, that we use for same purpose besides some other actions.

I'm sure that my kids would love to have a swipe, maybe I should buy one and set it next to our front door to put the house in home/away mode.

Fibaro has judged your admiration for swipe as unworthy of generall discussion and moved the thread into newbie zone XD

    well thats what it seems.

I have certain fondness for the button (great for testing random stuff that neesd to be turned on by other device), and utter loathing towards swipe - its battery mode is just a crime against smart home autmation. The costs of swipe are so nonsencicall that you can buy brand new (chinese manufacturer without the officiall brand of what they are copying) tablet, or older tablet of name you will recognize .)

Button, while still overpriced has surprised me with smooth operation and (thusfar) only one was returned throu company i work for. So it seems they are fairly reliable in CZE .)

not to bach too much on Fibaro but they did not have a good year in terms of brand new devicess in my opinion.
