I will try to explain this.

  1. settings with Checkboxes, Sliders and description what those parameters mean on the one hand.
  2. On the other hand. It modifies behavior of device more according to manual.
    E.g. Popp radiator thermostat has not template in 4.100 (if i remember correctly) and has there setpoint a heating mode. In 4.101 it has a template and instead of heating mode, it has hold function. Which means it can hold a temperature for some time according to manual.

Every device added to Z-Wave will be controlled by basic set of commands (ie.: turn on, turn off, set level, etc.). There are devices that do not require anything above that (simple relay modules, Popp Flow stopp).

When you lack template, then you can add (within Fibaro at least) those parameters and association groups manually, which can be hassle (you just wait for storm that is going to happen when someone gets remote Fibaro into Vera), depending on what you are trying to set.

device will still work with those basic commands though so unless it is bit more complicated than that you need not worry about it.

Template is device specific set of command classes, association groups, available parameters and settings for said parameters. In essence it makes it easier to control this specific device.

Hi,

Could I please extend the question of this topic a bit?  I just received my HC2 it tells me the Aeotec LED bulbs have no template.  within the GUI I can use the slider for brightness, but cannot change colour.  I have the manual and am willing to give it a go, but....how?

Is it 'reconfigure device' or is it Add parameter?

Once there, what am I looking for to map?  eg, the manual mentions example parameter 37.  So do I add parameter with a name 37 and then set the value to what I want?

Hi @disorganise,

Colour of Aeon RGBW bulb is changed by parametr and if device has no template, then no parameters are shown, then you have to change them manually by adding it to a setting of RGBW bulb in Fibaro. So now only general control works, which is dimming of the White color.

So i will try to explain, why template is good thing: You have there parameters for device and it makes device behave in UI more according to manual, so it gives you all device possibilities in a Fibaro UI.

If you want some colors there, please look there:

and there:

Hi @jakub.jezek,

Thank you for your answer.  Before your reply I did try to add the parameter myself but couldn't really find explanation of what datatype 1d, 2d, 4d means. I found the excel as well, but even after making the parameters 4d, parameter 39 kept going to negative.  I assume I was meant to put in the decimal number?  I could not get it to work so I deleted the parameters.  But then I came across this article:

  which very similar to the one you posted.  Unfortunately for me, it didn't really work - I got red (once) and I can get white to turn off and on and dim.   Beyond that it will not work.  For now I just use the basic dimming.   What I really want, and why I bought this system, is to set the bulb to 'cold white' during the day and then as the evening moves on, cross over to 'warm white'.  Not really strong colours - though maybe a dim red is useful for movies.

@disorganise,

1d = 1 byte

2d = 2 bytes

4d = 4 bytes

So VD in forum topic i posted link does not work for you?

Unfortunately no.  Colours don't work.  only white off/on and rainbow.  even when I change the numbers to match the last post.  i even then tried inserting p38 according to the spreadsheet.

I can check it when I get to office on Wednesday.

I spent the day playing.  Discovered that the 'configure all devices again' and/or the 'add secondary controller' are not good to use when you don't really understand what the implications.  I had written to aeotec for help with the parameters and they suggested the z stick as as secondary to control the colour.  Eventually I disassociated everything and started over.  Homeseer is able to set the bulb to cold white, warm white, red, green and blue...and dim them all.  It also had custom colour and I think rainbow which I didn't try.  Problem is, I could not for the life of me figure out how to do anything useful with the software - ie, create a scene and bind it to my controller button.   I also tried Domoticz and that was even worse.

So I'm back to fibaro and have recreated the network and scenes.   Unfortunately the way the parameter numbers are explained in the manual is really unclear.

I've gone back and edited the LUA according to the excel for v1.05 - I assume this is mine because the unit is new.  Be nice if there is a way to easily tell though :/:

HC2 = Net.FHttp("127.0.0.1", 11111)
jtable = '{"properties":{"parameters":[{"id":38,"size":4,"value":196608},{"id":37,"size":4,"value":16776960},{"id":39,"size":4,"value":4278190080}]}}'
HC2:PUT("/api/devices/33",jtable)

I'm just not understanding

I just updating one of the bulbs to v1.05 firmware just in case.  It hasn't made any difference :(

@disorganise,

Try Aeon Labs RGB bulb in HC with firmware 4.122. Now you can go through colors.

I also made feedback topic for that:

@jakub.jezek  I  updated the firmware to 4.122 but the bulbs still appear the same and I still get the message that there is no template.

@jakub.jezek  Found it.....have to do a soft reconfigure on the device
