Zwave connection distance for HCL

Question

Posted

Hi,

I installed HCL near my modem in the garage.

But i not even get signal for floodsensor or firealarm or powerplug in my livingroom or bathroom.

The rooms are just near the garage. ( separated by 1 wall 14 cm brick's )

i not understand why it not work on a 10 meter distance.

I have to change the HCL to my livingroom ?

what if i install dimmer 2 in sleepingroom upstairs ? zwave is strong enough to pic up signal ?

2) someone explain me what means never breached for floodsensor ?

i get temperature from floodsensor and firealarm,  but never breached means what ?

thx

Is HCL in metal rack or  is in wall any power supply or speakers, that can cause electromagnetic interference?

Can you move HCL little bit farther from place where it is now?

Can you measure strength of Z-Wave signal with wall plug and flood sensor in places, where you need them?

Breached flood sensor means that it has had allert before and in most  ZW5 cases it shows how long ago was that.

In generall i would advise to place anny controller to as centrall location of house as you can get, surround it with plentyfull permanently powered devicess (relay switches, dimmers, things that will not get turned off by flicking of switch) so that you have good mesh network ready to work around anny one device's demise.

Imagine Z-Wave signall like watter spilling - it goes placess but if you put some obstruction (wall / door still for z-wave / watter respectively) it might take some effort and wont have as much spread throu the other room. For that reason it is recommanded using permanently powered devicess that will translate the signall further (err imagine you haev system of hoses... allright envermind the watter metaphore its sillier now) and thus allowing your devicess to all get wet i mean connected to the network .)

Point is that  Z-Wave is rather weak signal and thus the loss upon passing obstruction is allways suvvere, you need something that would forward said signall and thats the permanently powered devicess (all exept Swipe), so i guess you can get few relay switches, wall plugs or something (altho wall plugs might be migrated by people if you are nto carefull so maybe just rely on stuff that you place into the wall) and see how hat  strengthens your network.

Contributing factors to problem in communication: strong disruptive signals (WiFi just next to your unit dosent help for example), strong (particullary Linear) electroengines or badly insulated electric motors - garage door ones maybe, metal coating of walls (or you know big chunk of metal that is car), but allso door's frame (if metal) could pose problem for signal, should your antenae happen to be in close proximity.
