Can´t get Philips Hue plugin to work

Question

Posted

Hi all!

I just bought HC2 a week ago, together with a few Fibaro motion, light and temperature sensors, a Fibaro smoke alarm, and two Sensative Strips for door monitoring. I have included all of them in my basic HC2 system, and everything is working fine. Now I´m trying to get my HC2 to connect with my Philips Hue lights, so I can actually use this system for something useful.

About my Philips Hue system: I almost 60 lamps of various types, most of them are white and color ambiance GU10 lamps used in downlights, but also some white and color ambiance lamps with E27 socket, four lightstrips and three Hue Go. Most of my house is covered by this system, and I´m happy with it as far as on / off and basic functionality. I have used the (pretty good) app iConnectHue to make "scenes" called morning, day, afternoon, night and whatever to trigger all the lamps on certain times of the day, as this cannot be done with the official Philips Hue app at the moment. In my bathroom I have installed one Philips Hue motion sensor to trigger different lights and dim levels based on the time of day / night. This is working just fine.

But I wanted more control of my light system, and I thought Fibaro could help me out. With the Fibaro motion sensors I wanted to turn on and off lights based on presence, time of day, lux levels, IFTTT integration and more. I understand this is complex, and the more I read, the more frustrated I get, because I cannot even get the official Hue plugin to work! I read about @

"Very Smart Lights" scene, and this is something I want to (try to) accomplish. I would be very happy if I at least could get some of it to work.

But this is my problem, I cannot get HC2 to connect to my Philips Hue at all! I download the official plugin, I go to the advanced tab, press "search" for IP-address and I get two options. Forgot to say that I have two Hue bridges, because one bridge only support (was it?) 53 bulbs. So I have Hue Bridge 1 with my most used lights, and Hue Bridge 2 with the rest, like outdoor lights (controlled by sunset / sunrise) and some Hue Go lamps. Anyway, a IP-address search gives me two options and I select my Hue Bridge 1. Then I follow the instruction to "create new user" and wait 30 sec. Then "Start Search" for new lights and wait another 60 seconds. That´s it, and the only thing i get is under "unassigned" in My Home, a plugin like the attached photo. I can´t do anything with this?

If someone is able to help me in the right direction, it would be highly appreciated. I might me missing something really obvious, I even hope that I do. Now I´ll go watch the latest episode of "The Walking Dead" and give my head some rest from this nightmare :-)

Sorry for my spelling errors and bad English, it´s not my first language

Hello @M3ssel and welcome to Fibaro forum!

Since you have a lot of HUE bulbs after adding plugin and setting up IP address, clicking on add user and then add lights you need to wait at least few minutes. After that you need to refresh page in browser to see added lamps under Unassigned section. It takes some time before they show up. Of course, just to mention that you have to press button on proper HUE bridge before adding user! According to the picture you posted you missed one of this steps in adding procedure.

Since you have two HUE bridges you have to do this steps two times and I'm curious if plugin can be installed two times. If this is not possible then you can use virtual device that you can find here:

Thanks @Sankotronic I was kind of hoping you would leave a reply on this. I just tested again to make sure I didn´t wait long enough or by any chance missed a step, but without any luck. Here are the exact steps I did, cannot see that I´m missing any:

    I install the plugin

Search for Hue Bridge (HC2 finds two of them)

I select my main Hue bridge

I press the button on the main bridge, and within 10 sec

I press "create new user", then wait some seconds more before

I press Start search (this time I waited 7 minutes)

All I get is a single Philips Hue button in my unassigned section, and that´s it

    This is so frustrating

I´ve continued trying to get this to work, but still no luck. Deleted the plugin today, unplugged both my Hue bridges, restarted HC2, installed the plugin again and plugged in my main Hue bridge. Did all the steps again but I get the same result, nothing. I used Domoticz a few years ago in with just a few lamp switches and temperature recording, and thought I give it a try just to see if that could detect my Philips Hues. I installed the latest version of Domoticz, installed the Philips Hue plugin, press register, it gives me a generic username like q7KHHC1CG4KKdxamxE9uVpxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and it finds all my lamps on the bridge right away!!

Anyone out there with a clue how to proceed? I would really like to control my Hue lights with Fibaro instead of Domoticz :-?

Yesterday I tried to clean up the bridges, from both the official Philips Hue app and also from the iConnectHue app, just in case something there messed things up on my bridges. Then I installed the plugin again, but no luck, still the same result. I also tried doing it with Safari instead of Crome. I've tried from my stationery computer and from my laptop. I'm starting to think it might be something wrong with the plugin? Seemes strange, but what else can it be? Can someone else confirm they got this plugin to work lately?

I have two Hue brigdes, they are connected directly into the same wireless router as my HC2.

If anyone have any idea what I can try to figure out what is wrong, I would love to hear about it!

    Thanks

Plugin works for me but I have only one bridge and 10 lights.

I don't think hc can handle two bridges.

On the forum there are some vd"s can you try one ?

Hi @Lode and thanks for answering. I kind of gave up on this for a while, hoping a new version of the plugin would pop up, or another miracle would happen. What kind of lights do you have, and how well are they integrated into the system?

Well, I have tried to unplug both my bridges, then plug only one of them back on, install plugin and still I get the same result. If I could only get Fibaro to work with my main bridge that would be good enough, because my lamps on the second bridge are mostly outdoor controlled by sunrise/sunset or Hue Go lamps controlled by other factors.

I tried @Sankotronic´s VD, and could one bulb kind of up and running that way after a while, but man, I´m not doing that with all my bulbs...

I will give the plugin another shot tonight, just to see if I get the same result.

    Hi @M3ssel,

I have 30 pieces of HUE bulbs and they are all controlled with VD. Working like a charm. Installation of VD is not really pain in the a.. :P You need to add icons only once, 11 of them and it is quite easy to get their ID. After setting up first VD for HUE bulb and icons then you can copy paste bellow code to all VD's and their buttons:

Please login or register to see this code.

Only thing after pasting above setting is that for each VD you have to setup hueLightID and that ID number you can find in original HUE application. Of course not to forget to setup HUE bridge IP and port on VD and benefit is that you can control more than one HUE bridge with this VD with just little sweat to do above setup. Once you are done you can control HUE bulbs using VD individually or using other VD or scene in groups! I believe that I explained how to setup VD with all details.

I think that I can write here that there is no real home automation without some effort invested.

Sorry for the late answer, I´m a bit busy for the next few days, so I´m not able to answer right away all the time, but I really appreciate your effort if you want to help me out. I´m running version 4.110, as the betas I have seen available does not seem to fix any of my problems anyway. On "Bridge 1" i have about 50 bulbs connected, and on "Bridge 2" something like 10 bulbs connected. It´s a mix of bulbs, but I would say at least 70% of them are GU10 socket.  I can control all of them without any problem on the official Philips Hue app and any other app that I tried that involves Philips Hue. Domoticz also finds all my bulbs

That´s ok, I know that already. But if I go to fibaro.com and look at their supported devices, then Philips Hue is one of the first one mentioned. Then I would expect that I should be able to get it to work so I could turn on and off some of my lights without all the extra work with VD´s.

    Hello.

i have 26 hue bulb an to bridge an I use VD to control them from Fibaro.

I have make my VD so I can only britness up an down an have a refress butten.

Yust go on a make a VD you will be happy for it.

Plugin is not gut because it will slow down you network trafick.

I olso use iConnectHue to make scenes an turn dimmer in all rooms instead of normal switch.

Sorry for my English I'm from Denmark.

    @M3ssel,

Philips HUE is supported by Fibaro, only maybe not when HUE system is that big like yours. I have much less HUE bulbs than you, 'only' 30 of them and I try to control them with plugin but that was painful experience not because plugin doesn't work, but because it overwhelms network traffic, HC resources and HUE bridge!

Problem is not only in HC but also in HUE bridge since it can process only some definite number of requests. If number of requests break the limit then it will fist try to use buffer, but then it will fail at the end. And don't forget that original HUE app when is running also sends request to get status of the lamps. Did you quit HUE applications on your mobile devices before adding HUE plugin? Did you tell your family not to use HUE during this process?

I really want to know why people always blame device on which they trying to achieve something and not the other one?

Hi. The hue plugin dies NOT work with hue bridge 2 (the one with HomeKit support).

I have earlier been in contact with Fibaro support who confirmed this.

So if you have the new version of hue bridge I can only recommend @Sankotronic vsl scene

    Dear @rasiam,

It seems that Fibaro support misinformed you about support for new Philips HUE Bridge 2 model BSB002 on latest firmware 01036659 since I manage yesterday to add Philips HUE plugin on my HC2 on firmware 4.120 (and before on 4.100 & 4.110 for testing VSL scene purposes) in less than a minute time! Because some people have problem with adding Philips HUE plugin I have write TUTORIAL with proper and complete procedure how to do it and to finally stop being in dark regarding this matter.
