This years short update.

So for the last few years I have undertaken a renovation of my 16c cottage and installed z-wave as I have gone. I am now on the last leg of this undertaking. I am finishing some traditional oak panels for my kitchen this weekend but behind the scenes there is a lot of hidden technology.

The nice thing about Fibaro design is that the devices can hide away in a traditional setting or be used in an ultra modern design. In my case they are hidden behind a traditional look.

My HC2 looks after most things now and I am starting to add those nice extras like turning on the kitchen extractor when the temperature/humidity or temperature or power of my shiny french oven changes.

Lights welcome us home and the 18 heating zones and solar are all controlled or monitored by HC2.  Garage doors can be controlled from a number of switches near doors or computer/pad interfaces and light switches are used only on rare occasions in some of the finished rooms.

I have found ways to achieve most of what I wanted to do with HC2 but in places it lacks the finesse I desire. It is not like my oak panels will be when I am finished with my smoothing plane but a bit rough at the edges.

I had a glimpse of what can be done when User Plugins were available for all too short a period. I have seen other nice interfaces that would compliment Fibaro but just now HC2 just needs a bit of smoothing.

I am looking forward to the HC3 and hope it has the smoothness I want.

Rob.. that looks stunning. would be great to hear what else you have integrated in the house.. Have you added an external PIR sensor to your setup to control the external lights and notify you if there is someone out there?? I have yet to find a way to do this. I assume you can use a normal powered PIR sensor and fibaro binary sensor..  but not sure how to wire it.

Why not use a outdoor z-wave PIR like this one:

    Cheers for the comments guys,

You would not want my kitchen just now. My daughter is mid cooking some chocolate muffins. Messy little monster.

I have not used any external PIRs yet. I don't use HC2 as a security system so all they would be used for  is lighting.

I have a way to do this by integrating my security cameras motion alarm via a proxy and the fibaro API to give me motion detection that is currently not setup. I removed a lot of stuff when the first version of 4.x came through. It was just too difficult to be sure what was causing the issues.

As @sj3fk3 points out there are also a few sensors available now that would be plug and use. I have an Aeon one that is not doing anything just now as it is a bit bigger than I though it would be. It may end up as a garage motion sensor. I imagined it was the same size as the fibaro sensor :-o. If a nice small external PIR was available, I might have one of those in addition to the cameras. As you say you could also use a UBS and there are several illustrations of how you could wire with standard sensors in the manual even a way to reuse any that you have for your security system by intercepting the wires to the alarm hub.

I keep my security system disconnected from HC2 as I don't like the idea of an internet or even networked security system and with that in mind my cameras are in a zone that is locked away for their and the rest of my networks safety. From the security leeks this week it might be something I need to do for my TV also.

I was hoping to use a powered device and not a battery operated one... but you do have a good point and I might just buy a couple of them.
