Pretty dumb question really, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere...

In the block designer, what exactly does the red square mean?   Is it delay until this action starts, delay until the next step, or 'smart' depending on the context?

example below.  I want to make it say that if there is no motion for an hour, turn off the lights (except if we have movie enabled....this might change later but I just wanted to test extra conditions).

I think for motion sensor it's "safe" not "disarmed", disarmed indicates its alarm function not armed.

So safe and breached re PIR function.

Red box is delay until action after condition met.

But I also think you need both the conditions inside the brackets

    You're right about the armed/safe thing :)

After some playing around I found the red box applies to <this> action.  So I've ended up with this:

With a corresponding one that does not have a delay when variable = night.  I then have three scenes created to set the variables.  So hopefully what I end up with is....during day, an hour delay before turning off the door light (which lights up on motion during the day), and a 2 min timeout during the night (have another lamp come on dim on motion).  During the evening, motion makes no difference.   There's probably more elegant solutions but I'll test this tonight anyways.  Thanks for the pointers
