motion sensor to work between certain times

Question

Posted

I have a motion sensor in bedroom, when breached/tripped turns light on that is connected to a smart plug. I don't want the light to turn on when I am sleeping and roll over, move or ? etc...I tried to create a variable, did not work last night.

It looks like that seven will only work at 8am and 11pm. There are a few threads here with a time of day variable scene. Use one of those to create a variable based on time of day and use the time of day variable as your trigger

I have a scene that run on TOD variable that works fine. TOD variable I have uses

Morning sunrise to midday

Afternoon midday to sunset

Evening sunset to 10pm

Night 10pm to sunrise

The night variable is my trigger so the motion and light scene will only trigger during the 10pm to sunrise times

Thank you Fat! I have to read more on creating variables, I do not clearly understand what parameters I can add to the variables, names, commands, time etc. Can you take a screen shot of one of your TOD variables please?

     Hi Houdini,
If you have an HC2, I highly recommend you look at Sankotronic's Very Smart Light Scene.
Everything you want to do is there (in combination with 'Main Scene for Time Based Events Control' and 'Sunrise & Sunset'.
I use the SleepState functionality in the code to tell the house it's bedtime.. which stops all the lights from turning on with motion etc.
I change SleepState via talking to Google Home. Happy days.

Is something like this what you need? The sensor only operates between set hours fort that function. Then in my case I have a separate scene that runs between 11pm and 7am which only brings on kitchen lights to 5% for that 3am stumble around or early work start.

You could also have an input trigger (button etc beside your bed) for when bedtime starts which begins your cancel sensor scene for say 8 hours.
