Gate u-link adapter BFT BEBA Z-wave

Question

Hi all.
talking about this product

a add-on card that have to be installed in gate motor that use u-link protocol and should let you control the gate with Fibaro/z-wave
I buy and install one this week, but I'm not able to made it works. Fibaro discover it as a roller without any issue. I try to add/remove some times to be sure that there are not z-wave signal issues but it is at 4 meter from the HC2 and it seems ok.
When I try to operate the device it simply does nothing.. and didn't change status if I open the gate with the remote.
I found some documents:

I have already check the configuration for "serial mode" and "address".. set to 0 and 0... but it still do not works. Dunno what it meens with password... i know there is one on the motor set to 1234 as default... but cant undestand if should be changed.

In HC2 I can't see any properties for the device so seems there are not any configuration that could be done.
Any ideas? anyone that tested u-link protocol gateway?

tnx

Hey Baran,

Have you got your answer?

Basically, I need the same solution for my Garage door.

Hello baran and sebco,

I have a gate controlled by the BFT Thalia which can use the u-link and I am trying to decide whether to buy the B EBA WIFI GATEWAY CARD or if I should buy a Fibaro FGS-222 and a Fibaro universal sensor for the open/closed state. The price would be roughly 100EUR either way, so I am trying to find out what advantages or disadvantages each option would entail. So far I don't have a controller/hub for z-wave, so I would have to purchase some box if I go with the Fibaro option, but I think I might need one at some point anyways.

Thanks!

Marco

Hi,

I'm trying to open link left by @baran :

but that page does not exist anymore.

Since @baran didn't provide any screenshots of the device advanced page I can only assume that BFT BEBA Z-wave device is missing template and therefore there is no parameters to configure it. That is not so good since such device must have some parameters that probably need to be configured. I could not find any useful documents for this device where user might find how to setup configuration parameters manually.

@Marcosa ,

I found some kind of installation manual for BFT Thalia controller that supports U-LINK and also has two control inputs IC1 and IC2 (terminal connections 60, 61, 62) that can be used with Fibaro double relay switch module. IC1 and IC2 must be configured for OPEN and CLOSE commands and relay switch module relay outputs to keep contact closed up to 1 second max.

There is also BFT Thalia P model that has four command inputs that can be programmed eg. IC1 - open, IC2 - close, IC3 - partially open (for pedestrian) and IC4 any other needed action. With this one it is possible to use two Fibaro double relay switch modules. Only disadvantage when using Fibaro relay switch modules is that you don't have status of the gates if opened or closed. But that can always be solved by some sensors eg. reed relay connected to Fibaro DW/sensor that is installed inside waterproof plastic box.

Thank you Sankotronic for the quick and detailed answer.

I found this link that contains more information about the B EBA z-wave card.

https://bftgateopeners.com/store/bft-b-eba-wifi-gateway-p111494.html

But I have decided in the meantime that I will go the more "open" route of using the Fibaro switch and possibly a universal sensor for the status. Am I right to assume that I need the older version FGS-222 (or 212 if I want only one switch) rather than the newer FGS-223 if I want it to switch the control inputs IC1 and IC2 for use on my main gate?

If I purchase the FGS-222 which seems to have two switches integrated, would I be able to connect a roughly 10m long cable/wire to it in order to control the garage door with the second switch, assuming that it also has control inputs? (The garage door motor is a Berner GA403 this is the link to the installation manual: https://www.rjgaragedoors.com.au/assets/uploads/documents/manual_GA203-403_4D_doors.pdf )

One last question (I don't want to abuse your good will): Do you confirm that I wouldn't need status sensors in order to detect the open/close status of the main gate, but that I could connect a FGBS-222 universal sensor directly to the Thalia controller which gets the current state of the main gate from the end-of-travel sensors integrated in the two arms? (I have attached the Thalia controller manual as pdf)

Thanks again, I really appreciate your help and expertise!

Marco

Hi @Marcosa ,

Since you need relay switch module with potential-free contacts you can use FGS-212 or FGS-222 to connect directly to motor controller (IN and Q) or if you use FGS-223 then you will need additional relay with coil for 230V.

Quick look at the manual on link you provided show me that this type of motor controller GA403 has only one input for momentary switch to control operation on terminal block KL1 connections 20 and 21 see page 8 of the manual section 9.5. If you have connected switch to that input then all you need is to connect Fibaro relay switch module terminals IN and Q to terminal block KL1 connections 20 and 21 in parallel with existing switch. You don't need to connect another switch to the Fibaro relay switch terminal S since you already have it connected directly to the GA403. Fibaro relay switch module will provide you possibility to operate doors from mobile device and with HC2 scripts.

Disadvantage of using Fibaro relay switch modules instead of Fibaro roller shutter module is that you don't have feedback on door or gate position so you will need additional sensors to have that sorted out. How I did my installation for garage door you can find here:

For gate I plan to add reed relay connected to Fibaro DW sensor to use instead of original magnet. This way I can install DW sensor inside plastic box to protect it from weather elements and don't need any additional cables to provide power supply like it is needed for UBS, Smart implant or some other type of sensors that can be installed outside.

Reed relay I'm talking about is something like this:

Thank you Sankotronic for the detailed explanation. I had a look at your setup and it looks very good!

Ok, so I have ordered an FGS-222 to connect it to my main gate. I just remembered that I probably will want to use both the pedestrian partial opening and the full opening options from my mobile phone, so then I will need the two relays from the FGS-222 anyways, correct? In that case I will purchase another one for the garage door (GA403).

I had a question about your comment regarding the Fibaro roller shutter module: Would I be able to use this device either on my main gate or on my garage door instead of the FGS-222? If so, what would be the advantage?

Would you rather recommend a universal Fibaro sensor for the state if I use the FGS-222 or a Window sensor like you use in your setup?

And last question: Since I only needed a basic controller for the Fibaro I ordered a Smartthings V3 hub. Do you think that it will allow me to control these devices ok?

Thanks!

Yes, FGS-222 should be OK for both gate and garage door.

As I wrote before, both gate and garage door motors have controllers and I don't see any advantage of replacing them with roller shutter module. If you replace original motor controllers with roller shutter module you will loose possibility to control them with original remotes and will be unable to open them in case that gateway fails. Never do automation in the way you will loose original way of control.

You can use either one UBS with 2 reed relays and power supply or two DW sensors FGDW-002. It is up to you. I used 2 FGDW-002 since they are battery operated and have feedback about garage door position even if there is power failure. (My HC2 is powered with UPS).

I don't know nothing about SmartThings V3 hub so I can't answer your question.

Gents, did anyone had a pleasure to integrate BFT B-EBA z-Wave extension with Fibaro?

BFT advices that:

Z-Wave Compatibility This is a Z-Wave device and can work with other manufacturers’ Z-Wave devices.

Please login or register to see this link.

However it does not seem to be working with Fibaro - 2 years ago using this extension I was able at least to see position of the gate - now - even this "functionality" is off due to the fact that the device during inclusion is not getting any variables for some reason. Anyone any luck?

Hello to everyone,

i just mounting the interface Beba Zwave in Rigel 6 and have the same problem: in Fibaro HC2 it's like a roller shutter adapter, ma nothing else is possible...
