Question

Hi guys

I have an issue with the dimmer 2 modules. When they are connected to mains power they work perfectly fine however when my backup generator kicks in they stop working and show a red light on the module.

I have the exact same setup at a different site with a backup generator from the same company and it works perfectly well. Any ideas as to what could be the problem.

Thank you

Do you power off the main switch while the generator starts up? are the dimmer2's exposed to low voltage at start up?

The generator automatically cuts off mains. As an additional test ive also connected a plug point to the generator and made out a dimmer + light + switch. The generator was started up then the plug point switched on. The Led still doesnt switch on.

Does the module show up as dead in GUI?

even so you would think its local switching would work

The module is live. The Led doesnt turn on when clicked. Local switching?

And when you plug your test set up into mains plug it works?

Do you think the voltage difference is making dimmer 2 have load error ?

Thats why I was asking if GUI showed marked dimmer as dead

    The test works on mains.

I just spoke to a few guys and we are getting a technition from the generator company to check on the frequency of the generator which we think is higher than mains.

If the voltage is correct that would be a good place to start

The red light means its not connecting to home center or Im guessing that the load needs re configuring

Okay so mains is 50hz at 241 voltz but generator is out putting 52hz @ 229 voltz.

I have faced several issues like this .. Backup Generator red led turns on dimmer 2. When RED led turns on in the dimmer 2 following issues happens.

    1. No calibration works ( blue led indication )

    2. Avoid load to turn on.

    3. RED led keeps constant in dimmer 2

    4. Cannot be turned on from the web interface also.

There are number of issues on generator which should be looked upon that is:

    1. issue of frequency change.

    2. Giving sinewave. On some generators, they change the sinewave when load gets higher.

    3. Please check the armature.

    4. Also check the AVR system

    5. service of generator.

    6. Most importantly ALTERNATOR.

Should work ok usually 10 to 15 % tolerance

I've tested the dimmer with voltages ranging from 120 to 265 V. It has an active power supply, the voltage should not be the issue.

But... I'm not sure about the 52 Hz! I cannot test that! Edit: I highly suspect that this dimmer wants a frequency close to 50 Hz. Confirmed in post #18!

I have some vague memory that this question has been asked before. I'll let you know if I remember more...

Thanks guys for the feedback. The technition will be in tomorrow to adjust the frequency for me.Hopefully all will be well.

Hope Frequency will do the job but i think you should also look on the ALTERNATOR.

I have tested dimmer 2 on four different generators yestarday. Only one of them works with dimmer 2 . All generators were giving 50Hz frequency. But three of them have damaged alternator. So dimmer 2 was responding to them. only Red led turns on constantly on them.

    2000 years later....

Technition finally came in adjusted the frequency to 50hz.All dimmers are working.

    Thanks guys for the help

Had same issue occur today. All power in house fine. Gen hz at 53hz  no fibaro modules worked.Adjusted idle speed down to bring Hz to 50 and fibaro fired right up and worked fine. Cheap Chinese generator.
