Detecting home presence

Question

Posted (edited)

Hi guys,

I am looking for the most robust way to detect home presence. It has to work 100% of the time, since all the home systems are dependent on it, including the alarm system and video surveillance.

With my current setup, when approaching the house I have to push a VD button that changes a presence global variable. Is there a better alternative?

The options are:

- checking house wifi for a phone presense

- tracking GPS of the phone

- installing a z-wave device in the car (and changing a global variable if this device activates on the network)

...anything else? would a combination work better?

Thank you,

Ros

there is a VD floating around the forums that uses your phone's MAC address once you connect to the home wifi network, but i have heard from a few of the users here that have mentioned its not 100% perfect..

I'm using this one and it works quit good (based on the MAC address of your mobile phone)

A good alternative is  the scene created by @jompa68
