I have 4 Fibaro door/window sensors installed on windows and doors. They worked fine for a year or so and then the batteries ran out.

My problems started after changing the batteries with fresh ones. None of them were detected by the Vera lite z-wave network after many tries of waking the sensors.

I then left them like that (non-functioning). After around a year, I again tried with another fresh battery, but this time the sensor seemed dead. No light came up with new batteries.

Has any one else faced a similar situation? Can the sensors be dead, if so is there a way to find out or revive them?

When changing the battery in the door window sensor you must make sure the door or window is open. If you change the battery when the door or window is closed you can accidentally reset the sensor

Try to do an exclude and include again

    Thanks for your response.

As there is no clear instructions in Fibaro's manual, on keeping the door open while changing the batteries, I definitely changed the batteries with the door closed.

At this point, even when I put a fresh battery into the sensor, nothing happens. No light comes up, as is normal, seems it is dead. I even tried to do a blinded exclusions and inclusion, but no result. What surprises me is that it is not one, but all the four sensors behaved this way.

Anything else I can try before putting them into the bin- quite a loss that will be!

The only other thing I would suggest is another reset of these to see if that brings them back to life. Or try a different brand of battery just in case you managed to get a bad batch of batteries

i highly doubt all 4 of these sensors would have failed at the same time so there has to be some other factor in play here

I changed my batteries when the door was closed and I had no issues.

    Cheers.

Of course it is advisable to do it with your window open, it certainly isn't necessary as the reset procedure is much more complex (first gen):

    (second gen)

Finally, @biswasg, did you try different batteries? After all, maybe reset procedure will revive them.

Dear Srodka, Many thanks for replying to my situation. I will again try to reset as you mentioned. I have two questions:

    1. How can one make out from the device, if it is Gen1 or Gen 2. I can't find anything inscribed on the outside or inside to this effect.

    2. If the sensor is already mounted on the door, how can one press both TMP buttons? Do I have to take it off from the door?

    Thanks

If your sensor has a built in temperature sensor it is a Gen 2. If not it is a Gen 1. Gen 2 has only been out a few months I believe as well

As for the TMP button if you have screwed it toghtly to the door frame then the back button might be pressed but I would take it off personally to perform reset then exclude and include

Could you find the "codename" which should look similar to this:

    FGK-10X

    or this:

    FGDW-002

And if it's installed correctly, one button is already "pressed" so you just click with this second button which is easily available to be clicked.

I have bunch of FGK-10X version 2.5 and some of them 3.2 and then few of this new FGDW-002.

For now I never changed battery on new FGDW-002.

I replaced battery on bunch of the FGK-10X both versions and there is always a catch. If empty battery is inserted then there is nothing happening. I had several new batteries that where actually depleted and could not even flash once LED on the sensor when inserted.

If battery is good, then sometimes I have to remove it and insert it several times before sensor wake up and sends new status of the battery to controller. Some of the oldest sensors v2.5 can't be wakeup with front TMP button even rear one is for sure pressed. Also, after first replacement of batteries on some oldest sensors LED does not flash any more on door/window open/close. They are still reporting proper status of the door/window but no more LED flashing during status change.

Hi @Sankotronic i've got this issue since several releases, never found the tric the change the battery without having to re-include the fgk. I've already tried to remove from an fgdw and don't remeimber having any issue.

@I.Srodka but for the oldest with fw. 2.1 the procedure described in manual is:

Resetting the Fibaro Door/Window Sensor There is one way to reset the Fibaro Door/Window Sensor. The procedure cleans its EPROM memory, including the main controller and Z-Wave network data.

To reset the Fibaro Door/Window Sensor please follow below instructions:

    1) Take off the Sensor's cover and remove battery. Make sure the TMP button is intact.

    2) Touch the Sensor's body with a magnet,

    3) Insert the battery, 4) Remove the magnet from the Sensor's body,

    5) Remove the battery

    6) Re-install the battery,

    7) Reset will be confirmed by double LED blink.

And for this version every time when battery dead they and replace with new one they reset and I need do force exclusion and inclusion of module. I have two from this part of sensors :-(

Hi @Sankotronic good new, the problem look like to be solved with 4.140, I can now remove and  put back my battery and the module is still working ! had some glitch to included them but now it's ok. Little precision I have tried removing battery on a newly included sensor (version 2.1) didn't tried yet on a already included module.

Hope it will work correctly with your Angelina.

This has plagued me too. Now I finally went to the bottom of it. It turns out that both Gen 1 and Gen 2 draw a significant amount of current when actually doing something. The current drawn is in the order of 30mA, something that a normal ER14250 (ER1/2AA) does not (or possibly marginally) support, depending on brand. However a CR14250 (CR1/2AA) battery handles this without problems, despite a slightly lower nominal voltage. So do NOT buy ER14250 (ER1/2AA) batteries, but go for CR14250 (CR1/2AA). These are typically about half as expensive also.

Confirming that for me the ER14250 batteries do not work either. A saft LS14250 battery does work.

Funny enough on the Fibaro packaging of a door/windows sensor 2 it is written that it requires an ER14250 (1/2AA) 3.6 V battery.
