Virtual devices and update rate of values

Question

Posted

Hi

I have a VD there I send a dim value to a lamp. If this value is unchanged, my question is how often is this value sent to the lamp(dimmer device). The answer can be that the value is sent every time the VD is executed, that is approx every second? Or, is there a z-wave mechanism that prevents  an unchanged value to actually be sent to the device?

Hi @tnesheim

A virtual device main loop executes every 3 seconds.

No z-wave mechanism prevents sending the same or an unchanged value but you could check the value before trying to send the dim value and if it is set already then don't sent it...

It is recommended to check status of the device with if then statement and if it is different then send command otherwise just skip it.

You can put in a fibaro:debug ("test") line in the code and you can see each loop of the code

Hi @tnesheim

I'm not sure how well you know lua and apologies if you know this already...

Check if light is off before switching it on...

Check the dim level and if it's less than 30% then set light level to 30%

Please login or register to see this code.

hope this helps
