When attempting to upload an icon - browsing to the file returns C:\fakepath\filename.jpg

Does anyone know why this happens?

Hi @Lenny212,

If you could use Search function that would be appreciated!

There are 3 simple conditions:

1) PNG file

2) LOCAL access

3) 128x128 pixels

Fakepath is not an issue, it's a security measure.

    Thx guys,

I converted the jpg to png. I am using local hdd. I still get the fakepath message.

I think that the web interface is assuming I am using a Polish keyboard because I noticed that while typing elsewhere in the web interface the \ is replaced with a *.

    My keyboard settings are correct.

This must be a bug introduced to the Fibaro Home Centre web interface.

Unfortunately the web interface prevents you typing the address - it forces you to navigate to the file - so I cannot use the on-screen keyboard to type in the address.

Ha, ok, you're right. The issue was just the png. I should have just pressed Add and hope.

Fibaro continues to show me that nothing is as easy as it should be.

I can't think of a website anywhere in the world that shows an incorrect path to confuse its users.

Yes, I wrote that earlier but here we go:

    Quote

Some browsers have a security feature that prevents JavaScript from knowing your file's local full path. It makes sense - as a client, you don't want the server to know your local machine's filesystem. It would be nice if all browsers did this.

And you can Google that: faketpath

It's not a Fibaro thing, it's a behavior of Javascript and some web browsers.

For example, in Internet Explorer, you could turn it off:

If you go to Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Option, Security, Custom, find the "Include local directory path When uploading files to a server" (it is quite a ways down) and click on "Enable".

But I don't know whether it's possible with newer browsers or not.

Thanks for the hint for the reasons. This nicely explains one of the features, where the Fibaro interface shold be improved (instead of forcing the users to annoying research and unreasonable changes of the secury setting of his/her computer).

    1) regarding upload of files I have to say, that other companies manage to provide upload functions without the need to dig around in the security settings of my browser, so I would expert Fibaro to be able to do so too.

    2) And if Fibaro's programmers are unable to do so, than I would expect an error messages with info for the solution of the problem (I have programmed myself, so I believe to know what I do speak about

    3) In Internet explorer, I included the

into the list of the trusted sites, and indeed, the fakepath issue is gone, but nevertheless, after clicking the add button, a  white screen is shown and nothing happens. (yes, my icon is a png file of 128 x128 pixel)

    4) I uploaded the icon files to my server, pasted the link into the field and the same white page appeared

    5) I can not veryfy what the effective address is , because the address is shown, but

             a) the window for the address field is too short thus the link can not be read and verified

             b) The link-text can not scrolled in order to see the end of it

             c) the link-text can not be copied (in order to see where it points to)

A perfect solution instead of an explanation of the insufficiencies would be nice.
