The general idea is... low quality power supplies cause false readings. Of course,"low quality" is a spectrum, but I do not quite buy that idea... Maybe specific types, specific switching frequency? I don't know, I do not see a clear pattern to the various reports on this forum (BTW there is more than one topic about this issue).

 

In my bathroom, I have a 24 V power supply connected to an RGBW LED strip. So that is "noisy as hell". I decided to build my own "abomination of power supples" to drop that to 5 V and feed into the MS6. It is a hysteretic controller (nothing wrong with that!) with relatively low switching frequency (about 60-100 kHz). I deliberately undersized the output capacitor and used (somewhat) high ESR electrolytic so it has about 100 mV p-p ripple.

 

If you do not understand any of this, don't worry, it translates as: "really bad".

 

It's been running for months... No issues at all with this MS6!
