CentralSceneEvent, value or sceneActivation? What is the difference?

Question

Posted

There are several ways to trigger a scene. Are these practically all the same? Or are there differences?

Z-Wave evolves. Depending on the age of the device (actually, the software version used by the manufacturer to build the firmware) it can implement three kinds of scene control. I cannot remember the name of the first one. The second one is "scene activation" and the newest is "central scene". A notable difference: to understand "scene activation" you have to use the manual, it will assign a number to a certain type of click and it is device dependent. "central scene" gives standard names to events, so devices look similar.

    Thanks. Some thoughts.

    • The Fibaro HC2 seems to use "value" as default (derived from turning block scenes into lua) - wouldn't that then be the overarching standard? Of is that a Fibaro-only alternatively.
    • But in any case it is a matter of reading the manual for that specific firmware I understand.

    Thanks!

As far as I know, value is for devices like a dimmer or a switch, to represent state. Scene activation uses an ID and centralSceneEvent stores data in a trigger (aka sourceTrigger). Please use the search function of this forum, you'll find several examples. I happen to know one recent example, it's here:
