I guess most doors aren't actually directly in the weather are they though ? I mean, I have one in the laundry that is straight into the brunt of the weather, but my front and back doors have a porch/verandah.

The issue is when you try and think about mounting on a gate or first point of entry on a property, then it's a bit of a problem. IP 54 is technically Dust protected for 2 to 8 hours per day and protected against water splashed from all directions with limited ingress permitted, so just because it is IP 54 doesn't mean it's not suitable for a lot of people.

Ideally for gate mounting and gate control relay usage, there would be an IP56 or 66 version so it is resistant to just about everything, but I would suspect for the majority and in keeping with similar alternatives it will suit "the majority"

 

I'm still playing the waiting game as I need a gate / entry solution.
