HC2 Recovery Failed

Question

Posted

So this morning coming in to the office. Was without lights because apparently the HC2 has somehow failed.

Recovery doesn't do anything because its USB drive has lost data.

Calling Fibaro in Poland is kind of useless hanging on the phone listening to bad music doesn't help either

So what's next. Does this meen that finally its over. or is there a trick to recover the system without loosing all of the programming.

Personally i think that if its over its over and something of better quality is going in. Because its reliability is kind of bad for such an expensive system.

I know some people do anything with it and don't have any issues but what we do with it can work flawless for months and than stops working al together.

But for now its dark here and Fibaro isn't answering calls or mails.

So anybody here know what to do?

Try first to boot your HC2 whitout mounted recovery stick.
If the HC2 boot, then you can put the recovery stick back again.
If HC2 not boot, then contact Fibaro support. ;(

It doesn't look like its booting or at least Fibaro finder cant locate it than.

Probably need to connect a monitor to it to see if it does anything.

Connecting a monitor to the VGA port results in nothing.

The respons so far from Fibaro support was not usefull.

So that's the first day in the dark.

So got in contact with Fibaro this morning by phone. "E-mail support is non existent"

It looks like the internal drive dead this means the HC2 needs to be returned to Fibaro for repairs.

Taking several weeks to fix at best.

I have chosen to fix the HC2 and in the mean time transfer al the devices to Domoticz and if the HC2 returns that wil go on sale.

The phone support was very friendly but its not acceptabel for me that a home automation controller dies and cannot be fixed by the user if a simple  system drive is broken.

... and because i spend some time with you on chat, i give you another one example (let's leave all the security or data storage or backup export / import pros and contras)

    - imagine a HC2 with single broken capacitor on the intel mainboard, and you will be unable to do something, unless you solder new 1cent part.

And i would fix that myself. But still not the same as a device that wil actual fail like an SSD or USB stick. That most users are capable of replacing or any tech guy/girl could do.

Your putting you complete house under control of a device running software that the user cannot at least try to fix if a hardware failure happens.

Maybe i's negative but good luck with a house filled with z-wave devices and no alternative for controlling anything. Its not going to happen to me again.

And tinman thanks for al your great help.

If the three right LEDs are on, then your HC2 has started.
And if your router delivers IP addresses via DHCP, then you should also be able to find your HC2.
