Question to control switches in multiple locations

Question

Posted (edited)

Hello,

I'm looking for a solution for a company who would like to use a Fibaro button in all of their locations (currently three) which triggers a disco light also in all of their locations.

The goal is that if they want to celebrate something, someone can push the button on one location and this will trigger the disco lights on all the other locations.

Is this possible with a combination of "The Button" and the switches? Is other equipment necessary?

Can't find out if it is possible to control switches on multiple location (connected to a different network)?

Thanks for the help!

Hi NielsvD,

Unfortunately you need a central controller to control the Fibaro button and a discolight. Also, if you need to control a disco-light in various locations, you possible need a system that use wifi and internet. Then a small computer like Raspberry Pi with a z-wave stick could keep an eye on the disco-lights over the internet and a z-wave program on the same Raspberry Pi could enable control of the Fibaro button. By pressing the button, the program on the Raspberry Pi could then send commands to switches controlling the disco-lights.

That way it could be done - but I do not know of a switch for the disco-light that can be reached over the internet - unless a Fibaro Homecenter is involved in every location. And I would worry a bit about wifi safety if a homecenter was not involved. But that is perhaps just me.

This is possible with 3 Fibaro HC2's, a VPN linking them and all configured as remote gateways. each site will be able to control the others.

That has to be the oddest request I've seen on the forum, but also one of the nicest...

I wish there was a price for that.

I think Fibaro should send you a button in your favourite color...

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm now looking in to the VPN solution where there is a HC2 in each location and configured as a remote gateway. The disco light switch can in this case be the Single switch which will be installed at each location. The only thing is that I can't find how the remote gateways are configured properly but I guess this will be clear when you have one at hand...?

Thanks petergebruers, I'm always open te receive a free button :-)

The solution is for a Chocolat company so they might be open to trade products ;-)

    Hi

I have 2 buttons in my house and I'm not satisfied with them. They are not so responsive as I would expect.

Sometimes they are not responding to clicks. It looks like each time after I'm not using them for longer period ie. during night and in the morning, have to wake them up first - 4 clicks. Then they are running fine. You can find similar issues described on forum.

Probably I should say they were working. After I reset my HC2 can't add second button. Maybe this is the failure of the earliest version. Contacted support for help and it looks it needs to be replaced.

In my opinion it would be better to use normal wall light switch and relay switch based on z-wave, although you can find some relays that are working over wifi.

But the Fibaro design seems nicer :-) and they have plenty of colours.
