Dead device - notification

Question

Posted

Hi all,

Is it possible to setup the system to send me an message when a device stop responding to the HC2?

I have a Fibaro wall plug that lives it's own life from time to time, and I want to know when it stops responding :-)

Ok. I already promised @10der and a few other users in another post to talk about this kind of issues. Due to personal circumstances this got delayed. I'll see what I can do.

Can you please have a look at this post (and following posts) to get some background?

Maybe continue there...

By "stop responding" you mean you get "communication failure" then the device becomes "dead"? Or can you define what you mean by "stop responding"? Status of the device is incorrect?

    Yes, that is correct.

The device stops communicating with HC2. So if the device is on, the temperature rises above set point and if it of, the temperature goes below set point.

    Hi again.

Hmm, this looks a bit to complicated to me.

I have made a scene that sends med an push message if the temperature goes below 1 degree of wanted temperature i the room.

In that way I know if something is wrong.

It is probably something unfamiliar, because Z-Wave is pretty robust radio technology. But when it does not work, you suddenly realise at lot is going on in the background. Then it gets very teohnical indeed!

I think that is a very good workaround.

If you want to solve the issue completely, and it is a first generation wall plug, the easiest solution is probably to by the newer version. Z-Wave plus has improved range (and other improvements as well)

Personally, however, I would recommend against a relay, I much prefer to use real thermostats (there are quite a few different modules on the market, but not made by Fibaro). Because they control temperature even without signal or even without controller. So if you send 18 degrees it will do that. Then if you send 22 but it fails to receive the command, it will stay on 18. No overheating or freezing.
