Dimmer not working with LED lights

Question

Posted

hi everybody,

In my search for reducing energy consumption I am seeking for replacing my ES111 Sylvania Hi-spot 75 watt bulbs with LED replacements of only 10 watts (this one):

or product specification:

When connecting it to my FIbaro dimmers the dimmer goes down, it stops responding.

When connecting it to my fibaro dimmer with another Halogen Bulb it works quite well.  The combination 1 LED 1 Halogeen seems to work,  LED only (one of two) doesn't work.

Does anyone has an solution for this problem? I really want to reduce power usage in my home and in the living room there are 7 of those 75 Watt units consuming lots of energy (always dimmed but still using energy) os reducing it by factor 7 would be a good idea.

Any help is appriciated!

Well... What can I say... "Because it is in the manual"? . Would you agree, this is a good enough reason?

Superb answer!

I would love to see some more users doing some 'googling' and trying to find out some answers on their own.....

@petergebruers, it's great to see, and to read, how you  try, and really do, to assist a lot of forum members with their problems

but very often I have to conclude that they didn't do any investigation themselves......

Long shot have you tried a force recalibration? parameter 35set to "2" and press save.

after succesfull calibration set back to "1" and save again

I am assuming you have a dimmer2. I don't have any experience with dimmer1

Dimmer 2? Is it 2-wire setup (see manual)? The load may be too low (also, for spec, see manual). In that case try at least 2 lamps in parallel or buy a "bypass 2".

Not all LED lights can be dimmed and will works as expected, I found out myself... even if the light says "led dimmable" , so, test with different types, load may also be to low, dimmer bypass can be an option as well.

Maybe my setup is a bit weird, so a reality check :) I installed almost all my dimmers is this way:

notice, I don't use any switches at all, all dimmers are connected to the 220 directly and I don't want to use any wall switches at all, I switch all dimmers with wireless wall mount switches of by the app.

Is this the right way to connect my lighting to the dimmers:

I used the bypass from fibaro, but the lights keeps flikkering and it is nog possible to dimm the lights at all

If it is dimmer 2, you have to connect N to Sx.

Could you also please answer to my previous questions? It is important to (double) check: this is "dimmer 2" and "bypass 2"?

If it is dimmer 2, decrease parameter 2 "Maximum brightness level" in steps of 5 until the dimmer keeps "on" when you set it to max brightness.

    Or add an N wire.

Always connect N to Sx? And why is this?   It is the Dimmer2 and bypass 2

Works a bit better, but still lot's of flickering light...  most in the lower power regions.

Well... What can I say... "Because it is in the manual"? Page 9: "Wiring diagram no. 1 - 2-wire connection". Would you agree, this is a good enough reason? I do have reverse-engineered the power supply of that module, but I cannot find my notes right now.

You do not have a switch connected to S1 and Sx, but there is still that bridge between Sx and N...
