IFTTT trigger but only after dark

Question

Posted

Hi Guys, I have been doing my head in for the last couple of days. Trying to come up with a Scene that will run via a IFTTT trigger, But only when it is dark.

I have a security camera running via Blue Iris software. The software can post HTML when it is triggered. So I have the going to a IFTTT webhook and this part is working fine. I can turn a device on with the webhook.

What I want to be able to do is only turn this light on if it is dark outside. So say after sunset.

I have tried to run a scene that sets a variable. But even that has me chasing my tail.

Also can you tell me is there a difference in the behaviour of a scene if you hit the play button vs it being triggered. When I have just tried to play the scene it appears to ignore some of the conditional statements.

If anyone could help. I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Matt

Hello Matt,

the play button on scenes is totally ignoring the IF condition. It allows to the test the THEN. To test the IF condition, you can create a VD, which is setting a variable to TRUE, which is part of the IF condition. make sure to reset the Variable to FALSE in the THEN again, so you can easily retrigger.

For the other things I can not help.

Thanks Kuno. That was very helpful.

I sort of have it working now. One issue I am having is I have a variable setup up to be light and dark. So it need to meet both conditions to work. But when the varible changes form light to dark. it is also triggering the scene..
