Dimmer 2 - Installation Issues

Question

Hi,

I'm having a hard time getting my Dimmer 2 to work. The lamp is a basic 40w halogen, and the wall switch an ELKO with 2 switches.

I must have read all manuals and I've followed every step in this video:

The difference is that I've got 2 Live wires in the wall, I guess one of them is an extension to another lamp. And then 1 load.

What should I do with the second live wire? Should it also go into the dimmer?

I've tried excluding it totally, or to put it directly in the wall switch... But when I turn the electricity back on and switch the lamp on it starts to blink, the DImmer flashes green and then it stops , and the lamp is still on. But when I switch the light off, it very slowly turns off... But not fully, and then I can't turn it on again.

I've tried installing the same dimmer on another lamp as well, but same issue. And I've have not been able to pair it with my Homey controller either...

What am I doing wrong? Please help out by explaining all of this like I'm a child. =)

/Stefan

Hi Stefan

Pardon my French but it seems to me that you are not experienced in working with electricity. May I suggest that you contact a certified electrician? You may burn down your home if you connect live wires wrong.

That said, do you have several switches in your setup? It could be, that the extra live wire is a correspondence wire. If so, you have to use a setup that relate to such a system.

Your problem with including the Fibaro device could be related to wrong connection to power and ground..

  • Oh you're so on point! Unexperienced, but willing to learn, and I rather ask before I take action, that's why I ended up here.

Yes, there are several switches. There's an dimmer right above this wall switch. That's what I meant by "I guess one of them is an extension to another lamp".

Can you please explain more detailed regarding "a setup that relate to such a system"? And how I can solve that issue "power and ground correction" issue?

    /Stefan
