Hotel ESD (Energy Saving Device)

Question

Posted (edited)

I have a question, I hope this is the right forum.

How do I deal with ESDs in hotel rooms? They don't deliver power to the switch until the room card is inserted.

I was thinking of connecting the switch directly to electricity, bypassing the ESD. But the ESD needs to remain functional. And they want to be able to turn the lights on at the reception for the guest at check in. And at that time there is still no card in the ESD.

I then thought of creating a scene and using one of the ports on the double switch as a sensor to launch a scene when the card is inserted, which will either enable or disable local protection and turn the lights off.

Oh and how is it with switches loosing power? How fast is the recovery time or anything that can go wrong? Just curious for any other time I have to deal with something like this. I need to know this especially for the RGBW controller or dimmer, which will be charged by the transformer which is turned off by the ESD or the guest by pressing the switch.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: I also just realised, the guest will still be able to turn on the light if on the app even with local protection on... Meh gonna have to also make a check to turn off lights if they ever turn them on without the card. And also reception can just forget about setting the mood for the guest before he comes to the room -.-
