Battery Level Incorrect

Question

Posted

Hi,

I've been having this issue with my homecenter 2 for a while now and I had hoped it would be fixed but it hasn't.

The problem that I'm having is that my battery powered devices are running empty, but when I replace the battery, the Homecenter does not recognise this.

So for example, I have a fibaro smoke detector with a low battery, I get a message from the homecenter that it is low. I replace the battery but the homecenter keeps showing it as low battery (and sending me messages). I cannot get it to read the correct battery level.

I know I can disable the messages, but I like to have the messages as to not have dead devices that I am unaware of.
Is this bug a known bug and are other people having this issue as well or is it just me?

Does anyone have a solution to this issue?

Usually battery powered devices sends battery level after wake-up interval (or you did special configuration).

Please perform manual wake-up ( press 3 times the button)  in most of the cases it works.

According to user guide of  Fibaro's smoke detector, the suggestion is to perform self check after battery replacement.

Also at another topic somebody recommended to wait for about a minute after removing battery and before inserting the new one.

I had the same problem with smoke sensor (version 2) and the Fibaro keyfob. And it did help both times.

(Maybe it also has something to do with secure inclusion, I don't know).

So just remove the battery, wait for one minute and insert the new one and wake up the device.

ok, so I've been having this issue for more than half a year now. All of my devices (of which most are fibaro products) do not show the correct battery level (also not when I call for the battery level using lua. Devices that I'm having issues with:

    Fibaro Smoke Detector

    Fibaro Door/Window Sensor

    Fibaro Heat Controller

    Fibaro Motion Detector

    Aeotec KeyFob

    (you get the idea)...

I checked everything, and yes, I'm supposed to get those annoying every 20 minute email that my battery is almost empty but I don't get it...

I contacted fibaro about it and they are in the know of the issue and someday in the next 5 years it will be fixed. This infuriates me quite a lot given that practically their whole system is battery based. The bug is so in the core of the whole product that it's just not ok to not address this. Not to mention it being dangerous! What if someone has a fire and the battery of the smoke detector is empty but you do not get a message...

As said Fibaro is not giving a lot of priority to this so I'm hoping that the some other community members have had the same issues and found a solution? Anyone in the know or who is having the same issue?

Also shout out to @T.Konopka to actually pick up this bug and report back on it.

I am still having this issue.. None of my battery devices are updating their battery level. Just now I found out that my z-wave thermostat is empty.. but according to fibaro homecenter it is 100% full.. This means that custom scripts don't work either, because if you check battery level with code it will show that it is full while actually it is empty.

In all my contacts with crappy customer service from fibaro its stated it's a feature and part of how z-wave works (then why even show battery levels...)

Anyone had this issue as well and know how to solve this because i'm almost as far as throwing out everything fibaro... Can't trust a system that doesn't give me info on dead batteries...

    example:

if i check my doorsensor, it should be alive and kicking... but there is a communication problem because actually it is dead..

Sorry, don’t have that problem. Works fine with me. Sometimes a empty battery when I don’t expect it, but that’s all.

are you sure it is the battery?  What is the voltage measured with a meter ? Can you try to exclude/include the device to see what happens?

These are the checks i usually do when i suspect something is not working as it should battery wise.

the problem is that it is with every device that I have. just now, I found out that another sensor is dead but i didn't get a low battery notification.
