HC2 died as 2019 began - Hung on Intel boot screen

Question

Posted

My HomeCentre 2 didn't function on January 1st, 2019. Upon visiting the loft, where the HC2 box lives, I noticed no LEDs on the case were shining.

After some testing, it appears the PSU had died overnight.

I found an alternative PSU (12v 2A) which allows the HC2 to power up and shows the LED sequence but then it all goes off. When hooking up a monitor all I can see if the Intel boot screen.

Is my HC2 dead?

What options do I have to resurrect it?

Do I need a 3A PSU?

Well, that was a surprise!

Left the HC2 on and whilst browsing the forum the HC2 attached screen updated and appeared to boot further - and accessing the IP address gives me the recovery system! (I didn't press the recovery buttons on the back)

So I've attempted the System Recovery now. Fingers crossed... :?

Recovery appears to have worked.

How can I see log(s) to learn what the cause was, anything in the UI I'm missing?

Did you connect a monitor directly to the hc2? That might also be useful as general logging monitor or other staus updates.

Yes, the photo in the first post is of a monitor showing the HC2 output. There is/was nothing useful displayed.

Hmm, the HC2 seems to be pretty unreliable at starting up after a shutdown.... I've restarted it a few times and just moved the HC2 back up to its home in the loft.

Now it's not responding to anything again. No LEDs on the box front, not accessible on the network. Must not have liked the disturbance of being carried up the stairs? :-(
