Fibaro RGBW setup with LED Strip

Question

Posted

Hi,

Apologies in advance as I am a newb in this area...

I have a Fibaro RGBW module configured with my RGBWW strip and 12v driver.

I am also using Samsung Smarthings hub.

Attached are some pics of the setup (ignore the colour of the wires as they do not correspond to the RGBW config necessarily)

Basically the RGBW module is recognised by Smarthings hub but I only get blue and white colours from the strip? I can control dimming from the Smartthings app but that is all. I am unable to get any other colours to show and I wondered if it is to do with the wiring into the fibaro unit?

I have a separate issue around switching the unit on from a light switch but first things first! If only I could just get proper control of it...

I don`t know how this shows up in Smartthings when added, but just a question, have you installed a Device Handler for it?

Guess you know this, but to test your wiring, just add GND/-  to R-G-B-W to the strip.

As I see it, you have added power through the black wire. You should only add ground to the strip as it leds get their power through the rgbw-output.

Forget what I wrote. I was wrong....

Thanks @samuel but the manual is not particularly friendly ! Have you had experience of this setup. Any help would be appreciated...

Since I don't have a SmartThings hub, I cannot test this, but I happen to know that Device Handlers for Fibaro devices kan be downloaded from:

I don't think you have it installed because you say:

But the DH defines 4 sliders (R,G,B,W) - one for each channel.

Yes the handler worked. Thanks @petergebruers

Now all I have to do is work out how to switch the Fibaro unit on with the light switch.
    The instructions from my supplier make no sense;

"The switch inputs on the RGBW module should be pulled to the Ground connection on the module - this is shown in the manual at

Depending on the type of switch connected (momentary or toggle) you would set Parameter 14 on the device to suit. For example, to use a single toggle switch connected to I1 to control ALL the channels simultaneously on and off you would use the calculator with each channel set to “TOGGLE - BRIGHTNESS MODE” which would give you the value of 21845 for Parameter 14."

So where on earth do I control the channels or find parameter 14 !!???

Do you mean the handler I suggested or something else? I don't think @samuel posted something about handlers. I am confused

How do you set parameters on other Z-Wave devices? I don't know how to do that on Smartthings, sorry.

But that (21845) value is probably correct and it is indeed parameter 14.

I "googled" a bit and this post sounds interesting and at least worth trying...

TLDR: If the device handler does not expose parameters, then you might try to "Use the Zwave Tweaker.".
