Question

Posted

perhaps a stupid question, but it this supported by homecenter?

What is S2 Security?
Is is a new addition to Z-Wave that offers better encryption of data over the Z-Wave network. It is virutally impossible for an attacker to sniff the data and replay in order to control your devices. S2 support needs to be added to both the controller and the end device.

Which devices support S2?
Any new device released after April 2 2017 MUST support S2. There are exceptions. Code space in the 500 series Z-Wave chip is limited when S2 is added so some complex devices may not have S2 support.

AFAIK not right now, because if it did, you would get the possibility to enter the codes that are printed on the device. I only have FGT-001 and Roller Shutter 3 which do S2, there is a key printed on the device called DSK. Theoretically, it would be possible to support S2 because on gateways, the security is handled purely in software, so running on that intel processor (not the Z-Wave Chip). I don't know if this is planned, maybe @tinman knows more. The older secure mode is called "S0". I am not an expert on this topic, all I can say is that it uses more modern algorithms and have that printed code, which supports their claim "It is virtually impossible to sniff the data and replay". I also know Z-Way "beta 3" supports S2 and open-source solutions don't.
