Control 12V PWM fan

HansAvlund

Question

Hi,

I want to control the fan of a Noctua fan (80mm) it has a maximum load of 1W.

Can one use Fibaro RGBW Controller for this?

I can read that someone has tested some fans and say it dont work.

Other claiming it does.

RGBW controller says in manual it can control fans.

In that case, what type of fans?

Nope, RGBW controller PWM frequency is 244-245 Hz only while most PWM controller fans (PC-style) are 25KHz (> 15kHz should do).
I used an arduino mini pro + a transistor circuit to capture the RGBW controller PWM (which is 0-potential) and regenerate it as proper 5V PWM wave with higher frequency to make it work (for 24V Noctua industrial PWM fan).

Anyway, better off using an ESP8266 or something similar and leave RGBW controller out.
