Using FGWP102 as a zwave repeater

Question

Posted

Hello guys,

I would like to use on of my FGWP102 wall plugs as a zwave repeater for Danfoss lc13 trv. Are they compatible? Can traffic from lc13 be routed through wall plug?

If that's the case, is following procedure correct or not?

I'm planning to temporary move controller closer to trv to successfully include lc13 to network and then move home center back to it's original position.

Then I'll plug in the same room as a have lc13 the wall plug. Will trv automatically connect to wall plug, or has to be done some configuration?

One potential issue I see that trv is communicating with home center in its original position, but probably have a weak signal, because I got e5 error on trv and some other issues.

So another question is, will lc13 connect to wall plug, even if it sees home center...?

Hi @bundi,

Why would they not be compatible?

FGWPx-102 is permanently powered Z-Wave device, so it is repeater of Z-Wave signal (that includes LC-13).

However caution. Z-Wave wall plugs can be easily unpluged from socket by someone who do not know of its purporse there.

Thanks, configuration is automatically, or I have to configure something?

What about my other consideration: ''So another question is, will lc13 connect to wall plug, even if it sees home center, but it has a weak signal from controller for proper communication...?''

Please believe me..... Danfoss lc13 trv ALWAYS needs direct communication with your HC.

I tested this over and over but the communication is not reliable.

Mostly it works but sometimes it doens't....

    I replaced them all......what a waste.....

Now i'm using the Fibaro Thermostats and they work fine.

I own two of them since... cannot remember, two years? And a few days ago I used Zniffer to confirm: they happily use a routed connection.

They are FW 1.1 - that may be important, I seem to remember 1.0 could get stuck and display E-somthing... So possibly E-5. As far as I remember, if they were 1.0 and gave that error, Danfoss would replace them.

What you say though may apply to LC12 (twelve), I haven't checked those. I replaced them...

Routing is updated at inclusion time and when you select "mesh update" on the HC2.

If you include the LC13 before the WP, the LC13 does not know about the WP. You can either first include the WP, then the LC13 or if it is too late... do mesh update on that TRV

After typing this I realize your topic might be an  example of a "X Y problem". Meaning you ask the solution to a problem but that problem is not the real question.

Your real question "what is E5" and how do I solve that, isn't it? ;)

    Thank you guys for support....

I googled about e5 error... :) Tv is verson 1.1... I'll report back in a few days.. At the moment I'll have trv in ''manual'' mode, I delete it from network and factory reset it with a middle button, to confirm that trv is working well.

After a few days I'll try to include it again and report about.

Just to confirm... Inclusion should be done direct with controller, or will trv include in network via WP..?

AFAIK that device  does not support "NWI" = "Network Wide Inclusion" but I would still try to include every device in its "final position". Just try it. If it works, your done. If that does not work, the LC13 might be to far from the controller. If possible (you already have a long ethernet cable) then move the HC2/HCL closer to the LC13. If it can be added, you're done, put back the controller in its original location. If you cannot move the controller, take the LC13 to the HC2/HCL. After inclusion, move the LC13 to its radiator. Then go to the BUI, "configuration", Z-Wave network configuration, then under "Mesh network reconfiguration:" select your TRV and hit that "Reconfigure" button. Wake up the device (click middle button) and watch the status window at the top. Should see something  similar to "neighbor list received" after 10-20 seconds. Technically speaking, there are scripts to verify if it took your WP as a neigbour but as I have stated repeatedly on this forum and in private message(s), there is no way to *verify* with HC2/HCL it is using that repeater, unless you have a Zniffer. And Z-Wave routing does not work the way you think.
