Heat controller + Boiler control

Question

Posted (edited)

Hi everyone.

I am studying the possibility of using the heat controller in my radiators, but I have a question about control the boiler.

Now, I have a thermostat in my living room with a free potential contact to turn on/off the boiler when the temperature reaches/drops the predefined value.

Do I need to change this thermostat for one compatible with heat controllers?

Maybe only with an actuator on/off should be fine...Isn't it? Wich one do you recommend?

Are there any other options?

What about to leave a conventional valve always opened to avoid pressure rises when all the controllers are closed?

Thank you very much

Hello,

The setup in my Home with an HCL.

Living room 2 heat controllers

Bathroom    1 heat controller

Toilet            1 heat controller

Study/bedroom 1 heatcontroller.

Study/bedroom 1 heatcontroller.

Hallway/stairway 1 heatcontroller.

Had some smart implants laying around.

Put the outputs parallel to the room thermostat. Also potential free contacts

The a set-up and coupling in the heating panel. Every room with his own schedule.

Room thermostat is only for back-up. Is set to 15 degrees Celsius.

So when a room requires  heat the smart implant output switches on, and the boiler starts.

My Boiler has an smart pump that reduces rpm if the pressure gets to high, if there is to much pipe resistance. If you have no smart pump you need a bypass in you heating system.

For know I’m very satisfied also the wife ?. Need some optimisation/studying for bypass the heating schedule. But that’s for the future.

Ok Flash, thank you for the info.

So the question is use smart implat to on/off the boiler when some of the heat controller open the water flow.

How many implants do you use? One per controller or only one attached to the boiler?

Maybe I can also use a 220V or AAA Z-Wave Thermostat with potencial free contact to do the same.....Correct?

    Thank you very much

Correct, when a heatcontroller ask for heat.

Example Heat controller measure, 18degrees. Heating panel set to 21 Degrees. One of the coupled outputs of the smart implant switches on.

I use a single output for every room. So I use 3 implants, every implant has two seperate outputs.

You can use every potetial free zwave device.

I need an output on every room because the heating panel switches this output on and of.

If you use the same output for example Living and bathroom.

The panel switches on the output living, and 1 minut later the bathroom switches this output off. Then the wife will not be happy. :(

It would be nice if the heating panel could work with a variable.

Then I could make a scene.

IF Var_1=ON OR Var_2 =ON OR Var_3=ON OR Var_4=ON Then heating output ON.

    Var_1=OFF AND Var_2 =OFF AND Var_3=OFF AND Var_4=OFF  Then heating output OFF.

If this was possible then there was no need for the extra ouputs.

This is very basic set-up, but works for me for the time being.

This is the idea I had, so only off if all the controllers are off.

Maybe Can I do that using HC2 with LUA?

    Thank you

I think so, If you search the forum about heating, ytou will get enough hits.

But two things are holding me back.

No HC2, don't want to buy an expensive non gen5/gen7, Z-Wave controller.

Also the Wife should be able to change heating schedules, or settings without need of LUA.

Hopefully Fibaro will add variables to their Linked Devices Panel.Would be Nice

Have fun with you're heating, and boiler settings.

    Another question @Flash

Where did you place the the smart implants?

Can you send me some pics?

    Thank you very much

Placed the implants near the boiler in the cellar.

The blue and orange wire's go the the boiler's heat on contact.

In the left side you see a corner of the Boiler

    Hello,

    I need help.

I would like to install the fibaro heat controllers (and the valves, of course), this spring.

I currently have a Netatmo thermostat but through the official plugin there is no way to use the Heat Panel.

If I want to put the heat controllers and remove the Netatmo thermostat, how can I make the boiler turn on when the temperature drops below the set value?

    thanks.

    hello,

Please have a look at the previous posts, you have to setup a linked devices panel and a heating panel.

    Also have a look here.

If there are still question don't hesitate to ask.

    Hi @Flash

    thanks for reply.

OK. I read. But I have a question.

Can I install 1 smart implant to the boiler and completely remove the netatmo thermostat?

And then, from the heating panel can I create a linked device for the heat controllers?

    Yes and no.

If you have a central heating point/room/rooms you can do it with only smart implant.

Do you want a heating schedule for every room you need an extra implant, or another potential free output z-wave device.

I have sevral rooms with an heating schedule. Some rooms I use the remote Temp sensor " IB_FGBRS-001" Some other rooms I use the temp sensor of the Fibaro motion sensor.

For every 2 rooms you want to have a schedule for you need 1 implant. ( the implant has to seperate outputs)

In some pictures I uploaded you see 3 implants. I have 6 rooms with there own schedule.

    Hopefully this makes any sense.

OK. Let's see if I understand.

I have 5 heat controllers and 5 rooms. So should I use 3 smart implants?
    for example:
    1) entry. + kitchen = 1 smart implant
    2) lounge + .bedroom = 1 smart implant
    3) bathroom = 1 smart implant

For temperature sensors, could I still use that of the Heat Controller if it doesn't have an external one?

    Correct.

And for every room you can/must make a heating schedule and linked devices setup

I am now thinking of getting rid of my entire system as it seems with HC3, development of lite and hc2 is going to be limited.

I have the lite and 5 heat controllers with temp sensors.

I am now thinking of moving for a Vera plus, with ET SPIRIT ZWAVE

Could anyone send a picture how I could install it into the boiler?

I used 3 implants (6 potential free outputs)

1 output for every room/zone that I setup in the heating and linked devices panel.

I wired the implants parallel to the excisting on/off thermostat. ( this funtions only as back-up)

Should be in the boiler manual wich contacts are the on/off contacts.
