How to control light with separate dimmer input

killer8

Question

Hi,

My dad got a light with 3 inputs: live, neutral and dimmer. There are 4 options to connect and the light is working a bit now(after an electrician has installed it).

However it's not working fine. We use a Fibaro switch (FGS-212).

When pressing the switch now the light is not turning on and off but starting to dim till you press the switch again.

So based on the manual(which i found online, attached to the attachments) it seems the switch is connected to the dimming input and the live and neutral inputs are permanently connected.

What we would like:

  • On/off press on switch
  • Dimming possibilities(not necessarily through the switch but through the fibaro app/web interface only is also fine)

What is the recommended way to connect this light to Fibaro? I thought about the following but maybe there are better solutions

  • Another/replace module which can control the "dimming" input? Not sure which one so maybe someone can give some advice?
  • Use the existing Fibaro switch module and connect S1 to L(to turn on and off) and S2 to "Dimming"(to dim) and see if this will give above outcome.
  • Make changes to the configruation of the FGS-212 switch module to control the dim input probably to turn the light on and off and dim to the appropriate level

What would be the best solution to have total control from Fibaro over this light?

Hi @killer8 ,

You didn't specify which dimming unit is installed in this light, is it DALI or 1-10V? But if you want to make it part of your home automation then I would strip off dimmer and change it to normal LED dimmable light and use Fibaro or any other manufacturer dimmer to control it.
