HC2 is not going into Recovery Mode - HELP

rajp

Question

Hi.. My HC2 was working just fine and then this evening stopped responding. I tried to reboot it but to no avail. I tried to put it into recovery mode but it does not go into that either. The led lights light up for the Power, Lan and Recovery. I have installed the Fibaro Finder app and it finds the HC2 but when I click on Connect, it does not connect. The browser just comes back with Unable to open page. Please help.. this is the last thing I need just before I head off for 2 weeks of business trip.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

As I understand your HC2 now in recovery mode, right?

In this mode HC2 has default IP address, is it on the same segment as your LAN? I mean is your LAN uses same IP range like 192.168.xx.xx ?

Try to follow procedure below by connecting your PC directly to HC2.

Important information on LAN settings
By default, the HC2 expects to b e connected to a DHCP server. In this mo de,
HC2 IP address may be obtained with the use of the HC2 Finder (see HC2
Finder). Another option is to set Static IP. Static IP may be set from the LAN
settings tab, or manually, by holding the Recovery button (back side of the HC2
casing) after the device has been connected to power supply. In this case, the
HC2 will have following settings:
IP Address: 192.168.81.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway address: 192.168.81.1
When static IP has been set, it is possible to connect HC2 directly to Ethernet
port of a PC, however PC network settings must be set to match those of HC2:
PC/MAC IP: 192.168.81.5
Subnet mask:: 255.255.255.0
Gateway address: 192.168.81.1
NOTICE After setting a static IP for the HC2 by pressing and holding the
Recovery button, please enter LAN settings to change connection type to DHCP,
when the HC2 is connected to the PC.

  • Ahh thanks for the IP info. I am able to login now and see that the system is behaving the way I expect it to.. should I just change the IP back to what I had before and restart?

If the recovery process complete, then yes... change the IP

Very very strange.... I plugged it directly into my Laptop and tried to login and it showed me the login page as if nothing had happened. So when I logged in, I just set the network settings back to what it was set previously. And then restart and plugged it back to the main network switch in the house and boom.. everything was back to normal.. no need to recover.

Thank you for you input on the network setting and that saved me a heck of a lot of hassle as I was going to get timer switches to control various parts of the house as I was not going to be able to resolve this for 2 week..

What I do need to plan for is to have a backup process just incase the HC2 dies.. it has become such a core part of the house running, what do we do if this ever happens. Getting a new one and then adding all the modules back in etc etc is not as simple.

Yes, definitely you need to keep latest backup.

In some cases it's very helpful when you upgrading new version and all devices not configured or lost.

Good advice from cag014. Sometimes it helps just to disconnect the homecenter from power, wait a minute or so and reconnect.
