Announcing door contact status on Google Speaker?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi everyone

So today I went to my friends house and he has Samsung SmartThings Hub  plus Alexa Echo Dot. He also has door contacts.

So whenever he opens the front or side entrance door, Alexa announces through Echo Dot speaker which door was open.

I want to achieve same thing with my Fibaro, Google Home Speaker and Fibaro door contacts. Is it possible ? if Yes then can you please guide me?

If no, what is alternative way to achieve this?

that's right, one have to ask the door Status, however one can use e.g. Sonos (trigger TTS as soon door has been opened) to ask Google Home the Status which one was opened :)  Imagine funny TTS asking "hmm .. someone is out there .. ok Google, Are any doors or windows open at home?"

You could get it to work using the Alexa skill I have created. All you would need to do is get the contact sensor run a scene whenever the door opens or closes. The scene would make a http call to my website. You would create a doorbell (trigger) which would run an Alexa routine which makes an announcement of your choice.

have a look at my website

@ianakapilotlight two questions:

  1. Is it works with alexa app on phone?  I mean can I send doorbell to my mobile?
  2. Is this solution could be used for TTS messages to Alexa also?

1. no. Not through the Alexa app. You could however do a push notification using the fibaro app.
2. Yes. Alexa routines can be created to make custom announcements. These routines can be triggered using a doorbell trigger. Given its name does not mean a chime sound is needed. Although you can if you want.

Yes, you can do this using a node-red bridge. I made a video to announce via Google Home if someone rings the bell. You can instead use it for door contacts too.
