Keeping Switch 2 always on

Hi,

 

I am using a couple of Switch 2s as energy meters for my fridge, freezer, washer and dryer, one for each unit. There are no wall switches connected to them so the idea is not to swich the equipment on and off at all. On the contrary, it is important that they are always on when there is power in the house.

 

It is especially important that the fridge and freezer get the power restored immediately when power comes back after a failure in the building.

 

Is there a way to secure that the switch is always on somehow? I have tried by setting parameter 9 to "1 – the device restores its state prior to the power failure" . Ideally, this should secure that power comes back to the equipment when power is restored in the building, since it was on before the power failure. However, I have found that this is not always the case, so it can't be trusted to work.

 

Is there a way to fix this?

Hi there. Just create a scene that will switch it on if controller detects it’s off. Also wall plug has “always on” parameter. So maybe use wall plug instead of Switch?

Thanks for the tip. I had this in mind too but it would require a scene that runs every 5 seconds or so. I am keen to keep CPU load to a minimum.

I am using the wall plug as a meter as well and it works fine. For the units I mentioned above, it is not practically possible to use a plug however.

 

I have found a passable workaround after some testing:

1. Set parameter 10 (operating mode) to Auto ON

2. Set parameter 12 (time parameter for Auto ON) to 5 seconds (the minimum value is 1 sec but it doesn't always work)

 

If someone accidentally switches off the unit in the Fibaro app, it will automatically switch on again after 5 seconds. Same thing after power failure. In essence the same functionality as having a scene monitoring the switch.
