Question

I want to use the alarm input to tell me if my gate is closed or open.  I have attached a reed switch which is normally open and closes when the gates open.  Should this work?  If so how?  I have been unable to work this out.

I have eventually found that a lot of what I have written on this topic is wrong, or at least misleading. Not totally my fault as this device does operate in weird ways, and the means to properly implement this device to operate auto garage doors and gates is pretty poor.

    Latest update:

I have installed two smart implant devices to control my automatic gates and my garage door. I have connected simple magnetic reed switches to the Smart Implant inputs to set the device input alarms so I can see if the door and gates are opened or closed.
The door and gates did require different parameter settings even though both operate from a short pulse on the outputs.

    Garage Door and Automatic gates:
Parameter 20 and 21 set to 0 or 1 depending on whether you set up the switch on the inputs as NC or NO.
To separate the Smart Implant inputs depends on your controller. If you have a Fibaro controller you can simply set the Control Protection switch available.  If you don’t and your hub hasn’t implemented the Protection Control class command [0x75] you will need to send the raw parameters directly to the Smart Implant device using developer tools, which once shown is quite simple.  If you don’t do this the door or gate opens as soon as it closes or vice versa.

    Garage door:
Set parameter 156 to 1 for the Smart Implant to give a .1 sec pulse on the outputs when toggled.

    Automatic gates:
Because of intricacies of the gate controller I don’t understand this required more investigation.
At first I thought there was a zwave range issue as the gate operated sometimes but not others. Eventually I determined that a .1 sec pulse must have been right on the cusp of operating the gates. After I set parameters 156/157 (I used both outputs, output one for full gates, output 2 for the pedestrian gate) 3 for a .3 sec pulse it worked fine.

Lastly I found that the gate would not fully close, it was about an inch short. I do not understand why but it looked as if the gate stopped operating after the reed switched closed, or a short time after. Again I can not explain why but setting parameters 150/151 fixed this issue. I had to set the value to 50 to get the gates to fully close.

I hope this helps someone. It has taken at least two weeks to get this working consistently. During that time I had times where I thought Homey was the issue, although it would help if Homey implemented the Control Protection class in order to easily separate the inputs from the outputs.

    good Morning

With the SmartImplant, you can assign multiple functions to each input.
You can connect and process openers, closers, analog sensors, etc.
You can also activate or deactivate alarms.
The functions can also be determined e.g. Door contact, smoke alarm, etc.
The changing of the way of working is determined by registers.
For this you can change the values by configuration or by software. (At the moment this is not possible with the software on the HC3, this is a system error and I hope it will be fixed in the next update).
I have attached the description of the smart implant to you.

Thanks for the info.  A couple of clarifications for me please as I'm a newbie.  If I understand your reply properly you are saying that as set up as per section 4.9 of the manual it should set the input alarm when the gate opens and the contacts of the reed switch close. The issue is that even though I set the parameters to the required values the software issue means the value s did not take and hence it is not working. Also - I don't understand HC3.

Do you have a Home center 2

if so it should work ok

    problems only with hc3

    connect power supply to unit
    12 or 24v dc

    +  (red) to red

    common (black) to blue

    for input 1

    then reed switch goes between

    yellow wire and Common

Then  set parm 20 to suit either 1 or 2

    if required

Thanks for the info.  I am actually using a Homey, although I am think8ng of moving to home center..  I have done everything you have said Jamie, but I still don’t see the alarm input set at any stage.  Think I must still be missing something.

What I have found is that you need to set parameters 20 and 21 in their NC mode, so when the door or gate is closed the circuit to IN1 and IN2 is closed.  This means you need to set 20 and 21 to 0.  If you use the NO mode the door or gate stops operating as soon as the door or gate opens and the reed relay contacts close.

I now have it working on one device. Although I have the two smart implants set up exactly the same one alarm input works and the other doesn’t . These Smart Implants are very clever little devices, but they are complex and finicky, and the logic involved can do your head in.

I have got it working. I swapped the SI from the garage door and the gates, and they kind of both worked. Still not sure why they started working. It is still a bit of a mystery to me. What I did do (to sync the alarm?) was to connect and disconnect the alarm input while the gate was closed until I got the alarm to set and reset. This seemed to be necessary but again I can’t exactly describe an exact pattern to follow to get it working.

The SI seems to have a learning phase.  When you first get it working, the door or gates open again as soon as the gate is closed and the contacts close on the input as the input is connected to the output. However, as I learnt, if you keep opening and closing them it eventually seems to learn what you are doing and they stop opening as soon as the contacts close.  I have no idea why, or how better to explain it. The shed door was even weirder as it stopped part way through opening and closing in a very ad-hoc way until it settled down. At one point the shed door even opened bu itself a couple of times, but it hasn’t Done that again recently.

hi guys, do you know if problems with HC3 are solved?

i got two smart implant, one for 2 gates that works really well,

i'm using another one with alarm, i see that parameters starts from 24 ad not from 20,

someone have suggestion? have i to wate for an update or i'm i doing something wrong?

    thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    @Jamie mccrostie @Petebitt

Very cool and informative topic here. I also try to solve the same issue as described by Petebitt. I am also somewhat not very familiar with electric setups and keep learning by trying to implement the smart switch to recognize an open/closed door.

I also have reed switches with two wires. I have connected one of them with IN 2 (green) and the other one with GND (blue) next to the antenna.

I have set parameter 21 to alarm NC (0). However, when hooking the little guy up to Home Assistant I can open-stop-close-stop the gate but the sensor for input 1 doesn't show any change... Did I set up the wires properly?

Do you have Fibaro controller?  (HC2/3/lite)

I am using Home Assistant to control the Fibaro Smart Implant. I am going to try sending the Protection Control class by using raw data. I think I found some posts on an athom community site.

This post shows how to easily change all the parameters for a fibaro smart implant.

    @MarcoSmartForYou

Just in case you still search for the same issue I had: Parameter 20 and 21 are part of the "Advanced Settings" view of Smart implant in Home Center 3

And if you found it: The dropdown list has SCROLLBARS and the settings "Binary NC/NO" might be hidden.

    IT WORKS
