Way back in HC2 they supported user plugins. Well having a custom IP protocol I got excited and started writing one.

One of my friends is a 'property futures advisor' for a leading housing company and liked the possibility of offering a building full of smart technology apartments and so we bought 20 HC2's for a trial and then Fibaro then promptly discontinued the official plugin support and even worse were horribly dismissive to our situation just suggesting to 'sell them' .  I hate you for that attitude Fibaro !   I vowed never to buy your products again.

In a recent post I have been very dismissive of the HC3 saying it is only partially working (true) and people should wait.

However I am increasingly impressed with how well the implementations they are offering are architected and open.  They have some good developers (although not enough) so I hope it continues to expand both with completion of the missing parts that are present in HC2 and also the new interfaces like RF and ZigBee, although I am pessimistic still on the latter.

For me being mostly IP based the implementation of MQTT and the opening of TCP / UDP possibilities are great.  UDP still needs to address broadcast receive (blocked by Fibaro's firewall) but it's getting there.  MQTT in particular, and it's a good implementation, is what has made me reconsider HC3, and I'm liking it.. so far and based on the other missing bits being delivered this could be a winner...
