creating a basic on - off virtual switch

JonnyB

Question

Folks,

looking for a bit of help here in creating a virtual switch. this was easy in the homeseer S6, but no idea how to do it on HCL.

I am looking for the switch to be a simple on / off whereby I can make this a timed switch to be part of a scene trigger.

For example, virtual switch will be activated on at sunset and off at sunrise to create scenes such as:

if 'virtual switch is on'

and external PIR is activated

then

switch on external light for 300 seconds

I would also time other things round that switch also

As I am a newbie to Home centre, please be gentle and fully explain.

Thanks in advance

John

Why you need virtual switch at all?

Create block scenes to set global variable at sunset to "Night" and at sunrise to "Day".

No create a block scene that when PIR is activated and global variable is "Night"  then  turn on what you need for how long you need.

Let me know if you need  snapshot for that

  • Hi cag014, thanks for the quick response, but how do you create a global night / day variable?

Go to panels -> variables panel -> now go to predefined variables

    Press add

give a name to variable like "dayTime"

    defined two values

    Night

    Day

    press save.
