Control ventilation fan with two speeds

Gurra

Question

Hello all,

I would like to replace my current control for house ventilation with a Z-wave control.

Current control is an old turn switch with settings: off, speed 1 and speed 2.

One solution could be to connect the Double Relay Switch FGS-222. But in this case I need to make sure that S1 and S2 are not turned on at the same time. Is its possible to link S1 and S2?

If S1 switched on => S2 is switched off.

If S2 is switched on =>S1 is switched off.

If S1 or S2 is switched off by command => all is switched off.

Or is there any other solution for this kind of application?

Best Regard

Gustav

  • Thanks for a quick reply!

Yes, I thought of this solution.

But my worries is that it will be a delay between ex. turn off speed 1 when I turn on speed 2. If there is a delay the fan will get 230v on S1 and 230V on S2 at the same time.

    What is your experience?

Is there no parameter to set this directly in the device?

    I don’t know of a parameter.

Works for years here, no problem.

You expect damage if you give a signal on both speeds ?

You could add a delay of a second or two at the start of each scene to ensure the previous scene has completed first?

I don’t think that helps. A speed first has to turn on, before the other speed can be turned off. The speed is activated by a humidity sensor, a CO2 sensor (by association) or manually.

  • Or is it possible to achieve this constrain between S1 and S2 with Smart module?

I have to emit that I have a hard time to see the difference between Smart switch double, Double Relay Switch and Smart module.. Maybe I need to read a bit more careful :) or do you have a quick explanation?

Adding a delay will work, depending on how you are triggering the device.

I use a temperature sensor connected to a Smart Implant, and use delays to ensure vents are open before the fan turns on. This happens through a scene, rather than directly coupled switch to output action.

True, don’t know how @Gurrawants to switch the speeds, I run it with associations to make it accurate. (As soon as the humidity or CO2 value chages, the fan can react and there is no reporting to the HC3 nessecary.) With associations there is no scene in between, so no way to make it pause.

Wouldn't it be safer if each scene start with "turn off S1" and "turn off S2" ?

This  way Low speed scene will be

    turn off S1

    Turn off S2

    Turn on S1

    and High speed will be

    turn off S1

    Turn off S2

    Turn on S2

Fan off will be of course

    turn off S1

    Turn off S2

Only danger would remain to give a direct command to one of  the logical devices when the other scene is already working ......

  • I would like to be able to change speed both by switch and also by z-wave.

Im "Newbie" so Im not sure how to set up associations. I use

as controller and it seems like its not prepared in GUI yet.

I been searching around and found this:[Fibaro Double Smart module](https://manuals.fibaro.com/smart-module/). What do you think? would it work?

    What I can read out:
    - **Parameter 164 available only in Double Smart Module**
When the lock is enabled, both outputs cannot be turned on at the same time.
    **Parameter size:**  1B
    **Default value:**  0 (lock disabled)
    **Available values:**
    0 – lock disabled
    1 – lock enabled

Still I don't know what happens if you switch on s2 if s1 is already on. Will s1 be turned off or will s2 not start??
And is it valid for both controlling from switch and Z-wave?
