Secondary Controller - Alarm.com

Question

Posted

I use Fibaro HCL for automation in my basement and Alarm.com for automation on my main floor.  If I attempted to add Fibaro as a secondary controller to my alarm.com system, what do you think will happen?

if you use (any) Fibaro home center as secondary controller, it will not (always) known these devices which are already added to your primary controller (in this case alarm.com system). This means, you have to run on each of them soft (or hard) reconfiguration. This will allow to identify them properly, and assign templates (if any exists for the devices which are added to your primary controller). That's all, after that step you can use them.

Vice versa is probably not good idea, because alarm.com probably have some specific things (related to it's major function - alarm system) and probably no such function like "soft reconfigure" (no idea, don't know that specific controller, but saw some issues with other gateways when tried to use them as secondary).

Remember, when you add your HCL as secondary, all already added devices will get wipped out from HCL, so if you have already some added create backup (to be able to restore previous situation in case the alarm.com and HCL combination does not operate properly). When you see all the devices from alarom.com, and can work with them, then you can start to include all the devices proviously added to HCL on the alarm.com
