Heatit z-water inputs with NTS temp. sensors

Question

Posted

Hello everyone,

Do any of you have experience or used z-water's inputs as temperature sensors.

I see many posts about use of z-water but nobody mentions using inputs as temperature sensors.

I intend to use z-water to control my underfloor water heating and wire NTC sensors to each of the 4 rooms (zones) and connect them to z-water's inputs.

Do you have experience with this setup?

Are there any issues I should expect?

Can I link temp. inputs with ON/OFF switches on z-water?

Is the length of the cable that connects NTC sensor in room to z-water input issue? (I will use approx 10-15m of UTP cable).

Many thanks

Primal

hi @primal79,

Not what you aksed for, but maybe an alternative.

I have the z-water in use, but also without temperature sensors attached.

The documentation of the z-water (I think there are 2 versions, one with analog and one with digital inputs?) is not very good).

I use another device in the rooms as temperature sensor (sensative strip comfort, motion sensor, smoke sensor with temp, window sensor, any multi sensor).

The temperature sensor and the relevant z-water output gets linked as linked-device for the heating panel.

The rest is happening automatically when you set up the heating panel.

    Hi @kroeatschge, thanks!

Your reply leads to another question I'd like to ask.

In your setup, depending on temperature sensor location (at the window/door, at the ceiling/next to light switch) do they report different temperature that would make your regulation for temperature in the room complicated?

I can imagine the temperature at the ceiling may be much higher than at the window.

    hi @primal79,

yes they do differ. The motion sensor is higher up in the room as the sensative strip comfort and they report different temperatures.

The difference is not big, but visible.

For the setup it doesn't matter. When you set up the linked device you chose 1 temp sensor and X actors.

The regulation of the heating doesn't get confused as it is just checking the linked temperature sensor, not the others in the room.

Regarding the heating plan it also doesn't matter if the temperature is reading 21° or 22°. When you set it up and its to cold (your wife will tell you),

you change the plan and give it +1° and thats it. You won't care if one room is showing 22° and the other room a different temp when both feel fine for you.

    HI @primal79,

just a hint, and if you have intrest I will explain. You need temp.-sensors on your input and output tubes.

I have 5 tempsensor in a 25 qm room, Windows sensor (window), floodsensor (floor),  2 motion-eye, and mco home mh7 for control. After start heating the flood sensor differs  about 10 degree to the window sensor. I.E. ousidetemp -1, Windowsens 15,4, floor 27,5, room 24,1. They are all to sluggish (pomaly?) to control your heating.
